St. John’s UCC to hold Good Friday service

A community ecumenical Good Friday service will be held noon Friday at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 301 N. Main St., Fairmont. Downtown churches participating are Fairmont United Methodist Church, First Congregational UCC, St. Martin’s Episcopal Church and St. John’s UCC. Everyone is invited.

Humane Society bake sale fundraiser

There will be a bake sale fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Fleet & Farm Ace Hardware Store, 1300 N. State St., Fairmont. Several baked goods will be available to purchase. Proceeds will help with expenses for the animals at the shelter in Fairmont.

Conservation Club to hold bird house event

“Bird House Day” will be 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Martin County Conservation Club on the south end of North Silver Lake. Visitors can reach the park by going eight miles south of Fairmont on Highway 15, then taking a right on County Highway 8 for 1 1/4 miles just past Hands Park. They will offer a number of bluebird, wren and wood duck houses for no charge. They also will have some specialty houses (outhouse and octagon wren houses) available at a reasonable cost. Donations are appreciated. The public is invited.
