Fishing tournament Saturday in Fairmont

Fairmont Lakes Foundation, Inc. will hold their 5th annual ice fishing tournament Saturday in Fairmont. The tournament is limited to the first 250 paid anglers. Check-in will be 8-10 a.m. at Sommer Outdoors, 1547 Albion Ave., Fairmont; a shotgun start will be held 11 a.m. at Gomsrud Park; with weigh-in 3 p.m. at The Channel Inn. The entry fee is $30 per person and includes a pulled pork sandwich and chips from the Channel Inn. Over $3,500 in cash and prizes will be awarded. CREST to host class in Fairmont

CREST of Martin County will be presenting the class “A Matter of Balance” from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesdays beginning Jan. 29, and concluding March 19, at the Evangelical Covenant Church, 901 Woodland Ave. in Fairmont. This eight-session class is designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels among older adults. It includes an exercise program, identifying our fears and finding options for overcoming them. They will also check homes for safety/falling issues. The curriculum is good for planning ahead to still do the things we like to do. Anyone having concerns about falling or wanting to improve their balance, flexibility, and strength is encouraged to attend. Registration is required in order to provide the needed materials and a $10 donation is suggested to help cover the costs. Registration deadline is Jan. 25.
