Warrior hoopsters collar Bulldogs in Iowa preps

LAKE MILLS, Iowa — Freshman guard Ainsley Ulrich poured in a team-leading 19 points to engineer the North Union Warriors’ 48-36 victory over the Lake Mills Bulldogs during Top of Iowa Conference basketball action Tuesday night in Lake Mills.

Ulrich also distributed three assists and pocketed a game-best four steals for the Warriors, who built a 26-17 lead by halftime.

Post player Olivia Merrill produced a double-double performance of 11 points and a game-leading 16 rebounds for North Union.

Libby Stevens netted eight points and doled out a game-high four assists for the Warriors, while teammate Naomi Jones collected five points to complement nine rebounds and three assists.

Ava Steinberger grabbed seven rebounds for North Union, which connected on 17 of 43 shots from 2-point range, 3 of 13 behind the 3-point arc and 5 of 7 at the free throw line.

Freshman guard Cora Sauer tossed in a game-leading 21 points to pace the Bulldogs.

North Union (6-4) plays host to Eagle Grove (0-9) at 6 p.m. tonight in Armstrong.

Boys Basketball

North Union 47, Lake Mills 43 — Point guard Kyan Jones netted a team-best 12 points to help the Warriors fend off the late-charging Bulldogs by four during Top of Iowa Conference basketball action Tuesday night in Lake Mills, Iowa.

Kyan Jones grabbed a co-team-high six boards and doled out three assists, while post player Kody Irmiter tossed in 10 points and pulled down a co-team-best six rebounds.

Grady Madden tallied eight points and dished out three assists for North Union, Preston Guerdet scored seven points, while Dan Fothergill and Aiden Lofstrom each chipped in five points. Lofstrom also garnered a co-team-leading six boards and dished out three assists.

The Warriors connected on 14 of 26 attempts from 2-point distance, 3 of 14 behind the 3-point line and 10 of 18 at the free throw line.

Lance Helming poured in a game-best 26 points to top the Bulldogs (7-1), while Eli Menke scored nine.

The Warriors built a 27-19 lead by intermission before the Bulldogs rallied in the second half to narrow the final margin.

North Union (8-2) plays host to Eagle Grove (5-3) at 7:30 p.m. tonight in Armstrong.
