Area roundup: Fairmont track dominates in Waseca
PREP TRACK AND FIELD
WASECA – The Fairmont boys and girls track and field team placed first and third during Tuesday’s Waseca High School Meet. Blue Earth Area, Byron, Minnesota Valley Lutheran, New Ulm, St Peter and Waseca were the other teams competing.
Tavian Harvey continued to impress in the short distance after placing second and third in the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Mollie Leiding finished fourth in both events, with her run in the 200 a season-best 27.98. Jordan Thompson placed third in the 400-meter dash with a personal best time of 55.42. Addison Toothaker, Harlee Fastnacht and Madi Thompson got third, fourth and fifth for the girls. Toothaker and Fastnacht with season-best times. Brier Lenort (2:06.13) and Cooper Gudahl (2:10.08) got second and fifth in the 800-meter run, while Abbie Simpson (2:27.56), Audrey Nemmers (2:39.42), Makenzie Gerhardt (2:42.62) and Lauren Zarling (2:43.31) got second, eighth, ninth and tenth for the girls. Carter and Devin Hanson got second and sixth in the 1600-meter run, while Cole Hanson got first in the 3200-meter run. The hurdles teams were led by Dakota Wiley, Amiyah Dunn and Ella Wubena, who placed second, eighth and ninth in their respective 300-meter races. Both 4 by 200-meter dash teams placed second, while the boys 4 by 400 and 4 by 800 groups got first. Tyler Bicknase had another impressive showing at shot put with his fourth-place toss of 40′ 6″. Kaylee Kloeckner and Addison Folkerts represented the girls in the same event with third and fourth-place throws. Folkerts also got first on discus with a season-best finish of 102′ 11″. Tytan Tumbleson placed second in both high jump and long jump, with the ladder being a season-best leap of 19′ 8.75″. The pole vault was led by Jase Meade and Marley Perkins, who placed third and first with scores of 13′ and 7′. Travohn Harvey had another strong showing on triple jump, getting first place yet again with his 39′ 2″.
The Cardinals are back in action this Friday at St. Clair Track.
LAKE CRYSTAL – The Granada Huntley East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther track and field team competed in the LCWM/Nicollet Meet on Tuesday afternoon in Lake Crystal.
Bowan Sill and Londyn Bowers had great showings in the short distance. Sill got first place in the 100-meter dash while Bowers got second in the same event and first in the 200-meter dash. Rylan Rodgers and Jaxson Bellecourt got sixth and ninth in the 200. Jacob Mattson got fourth in the 400-meter dash for the boys, while Cecilia Nowicki got fifth for the girls. Vaughn Thompson placed fourth and third in the 110 and 300-meter hurdles. The Jaguar boys’ 4 by 100 relay team, consisting of Rodgers, Thompson, Mattson and Bellecourt, placed second behind GFW. Lynsie Salic had a great afternoon for the throws after notching second and fourth place finishes in discus and shot put. Mattson got second in the triple jump.
GHEC/T/ML will run this Friday at St. Clair.
PREP SOFTBALL

TRUMAN – The Granada Huntley East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther softball team just came short of a comeback during Tuesday afternoon’s contest against Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons, losing 7-5 to fall to 1-4 on the early season. The Knights scored all seven runs in the first four frames. And while GHEC/T/ML did punch back with four runs in the fifth, the rally came up just short.
Peyton Stohs had two hits and an RBI to lead all Jaguars. She finished her day in the circle throwing all seven innings and allowing just three earned runs. Mariel Parish, Laticianna Rosales Wegner, Samantha Urban and Kyana Thomas were the other Jaguars who notched a hit.
GHEC/T/ML plays Nicollet on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
