All-Conference baseball players

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont baseball team followed up its Class AA third-place finish with a plethora of post-season honorees.
Landen Meyerdirk, Nate Soelter, Lincoln Becker, Levi Pooley, and Brendan Schmidtke made the Big South All-Conference team, while Ben Moeller made All-Conference honorable mention.
Meyerdirk, Nate Soelter, Becker, Josh Soelter, and Joseph Hackett made the All-Section team.
Nate Soelter and Becker made the State All-Tournament Team, while Meyerdirk landed a spot on the Lions All-Star Team.
“These kids were a sign of consistency and worked hard for each other,” Fairmont head coach Don Waletich said. “They are well deserving of the honors. They’ve been a treat to be around and we lost some talented players to graduation, but we have some of these talented kids returning.”
The seniors finished 24-3 this season and 27-3 last season, finishing 51-6 — a .895 winning percentage.
In 27 games this season, Meyerdirk hit a blistering .379 (36-for-95) and added a .483 on-base percentage, a .484 slugging percentage and .967 on-base plus slugging percentage.
Meyerdirk scored 35 runs, drove in 12 and stole 22 bases. He had 22 singles, nine doubles and two triples this season.
Nate Soelter finished with a .379 batting average (36-for-95), had a .483 on-base percentage, a .484 slugging percentage and a .967 OPS.
Nate Soelter scored 28 runs, had 23 RBIs, and stole 11 bases. He had 16 singles, seven doubles, an amazing seven triples and belted two home runs.
Becker had a team-leading .398 (41-for-103) batting average, a .448 on-base percentage, a.485 slugging percentage and .934 OPS.
Becker scored 28 runs and drove in a team-leading 33 runs. He had 32 singles, four doubles, two triples and one home run hit in the state tournament.
Pooley finished with a .241 (20-for-83) batting average, a .343 on-base percentage, a .337 slugging percentage and .825 OPS.
Pooley scored 19 runs and had 28 RBIs. He finished with 13 singles, four doubles, one triple and one home run.
Brendan Schmidtke had a .229 (16-for-70) batting average, a 440 on-base percentage, a .356 slugging percentage and .825 OPS.
Brendan Schmidtke scored 20 runs and drove in 12. He had 15 singles, one double and had a team-leading 22 walks, which helped his on-base percentage.
Josh Soelter was a mid-season addition to the varsity squad. He had a .333 (17-for-51) batting average, a .410 on-base percentage, a .392 slugging percentage and .802 OPS.
Josh Soelter scored nine runs in the 18 games he played with the varsity and had nine RBIs.
Hackett had a .246 (17-for-69) batting average, a .333 on-base percentage, a .275 slugging percentage and .609 OPS.
Hackett scored six runs, hit 15 singles and two doubles, and drove in 18 runs.
Moeller had a .500 (1-for-2) batting average in his limited at-bats and had one RBI. He had a .500 on-base percentage. a .500 slugging percentage and 1.000 OPS.
On the mound, Josh Soelter pitched three innings, finishing with a 7.00 earned run average. He struck out three.
Meyerdirk was 2-0 with one save, pitching 17 innings. He had a 1.24 earned run average, striking out 15. Becker also saw time on the mound, going 2-0. He threw 17 1/3 innings and had a 0.81 ERA. He struck out six.
Nate Soelter had a team-leading seven wins against only one loss. He threw 62 innings, had a 1.92 ERA and struck out 63, which is a little more than one per inning.
Brendan Schmidtke finished 5-1 with one save in his 38 1/3 innings pitched. His ERA was 0.91 and he struck out 32. Moeller finished 6-0, winning both games against Luverce in the section championship games. He thew 29 2/3 innings with a 2.36 ERA. He struck out 14.
Behind the dish, Hackett threw out 7-of-11 runners attempting to steal, which is at 64 percent.
