B.E. Area, Fairmont girls golfers place 1st, 2nd at BSC East event

JACKSON — Fairmont teammates Solveig Senf and Anika Haugen earned shares of a three-way tie for medalist honors, but Payten Gudahl, Katelyn Storbeck and Madison Ehrich pace Blue Earth Area’s narrow 198-204 victory over the Cardinals during Monday’s six-team Big South Conference East Division girls golf event at the Jackson Golf Club.

Senf and Haugen each carded nine-hole rounds of 45 to match St. Peter’s Adrianna Bixby for meet-low marks. Bixby fueled the Saints’ third-place team total of 210.

Haugen generated a team-best four pars, Senf produced two pars, while teammate Brynn Gustafson connected for Fairmont’s only birdie on the par-4 No. 3 hole. Gustafson, who also made one par, shot a 56 for Fairmont, while Leslie Zarling capped the counting scores with a 58.

Madi Peyman and Katherine Zelaya penciled in respective rounds of 62 and 67 for the Cardinals.

Payten Gudahl generated two pars to nail down fourth place individually with a 46, Katelyn Storbeck also made two pars en route to a fifth-place mark of 47, while Ehrich added one par to highlight her sixth-place showing at 50.

Rylan Storbeck, who made one par, shot a 55 to complete the Bucs’ counting scores. Lola Lundquist (60) and Hailey Becker (68) rounded out BEA’s performance.

Blue Earth Area competes in the Fairmont Invitational at 9 a.m. Saturday at Rose Lake Golf Course, while Fairmont travels to the New Prague Golf Club on Friday for a 1 p.m. tournament.

Boys Golf

Blake Magelee, Kaiden Brovold, Anthony Nicolai and Owen Matejcek posted a 1-2-3-4 individual showing to power St. Peter to a 16-stroke margin of victory — 160-176 — over runner-up and host New Ulm during Monday’s Big South Conference East Division boys golf event at the New Ulm Country Club.

Magelee coasted to a nine-hole meet medalist mark of 38, Brovold tallied a runner-up medalist score of 39, Nicolai nailed down third overall at 41, while Matejcek matched Blue Earth Area’s Ashton Lloyd, New Ulm’s Will Fossen and Waseca’s Cody Vagts for fourth at 42.

Lloyd birdied the par-5 ninth hole and added three pars to guide the Bucs to third place at 182, while Brock Lutterman tied for eighth place individually with a 43 to steer Fairmont to a fifth-place total of 186 — one shot behind Waseca and one shot ahead of sixth-place JCC.

Lutterman birdied the par-5 first hole and added one par, while Mathew Cone made one par to generate a round of 46.

Harmon Schrunk and Beau Becker completed Fairmont’s counting scores with a 48 and a 49, respectively. Schrunk delivered two pars, while Becker had one.

Hartley Aust, who tallied two pars, fired a 51 for Fairmont, while Blake Hilgendorf chipped in a 53 with one par.

Kyren Sunken and Manny Granillo followed Lloyd in BEA’s scoring column with a pair of 46s, while Max Loge chipped in the final counting mark of 48. Sunken birdied the par-3 second hole, Granillo parred one hole and Loge delivered three pars.

Jackson Blondin generated three pars to top his round of 50 for BEA, while Eli Blagg chipped in a 54.

Fairmont and Blue Earth Area travel to the Shoreland Country Club in St. Peter today to compete in a 2 p.m. invitational.

North Union 167, Eagle Grove 200 (Boys) — Drew Henderson and Chase Cummins penciled in the two lowest nine-hole rounds to power the host Warriors to a 33-stroke Iowa prep win over the Eagles on Monday in Bancroft.

Henderson claimed meet medalist honors by firing a 3-over 38, highlighted by six pars, while Cummins netted runner-up accolades by shooting a 41, including birdies on Nos. 1 and 2 to go with one par.

Teagon Fothergill and Cole Nicoson rounded out North Union’s counting totals with a 43 and a 45, respectively.

Caden Walders and Carter Martens chipped in a 52 and a 59 for the Warriors.

Connor Christopher shot a team-best 48 for the Eagles, followed by Zach Hogrefe (49), Trenton Sorenson (51) and Evan Thul (52), respectively.

North Union plays host to Belmond-Klemme and Garner-Hayfield/Ventura at 4:15 p.m. Thursday back at Country Greens Golf Course in Armstrong.

Eagle Grove 218, North Union 227 (Girls) — The Warriors’ Olivia Von Bank captured meet medalist honors, but the Eagles edged the host team by nine shots during Iowa prep action Monday at Country Greens Golf Course in Armstrong.

Von Bank carded a dual-best nine-hole round of 48, while teammate Amelia Fothergill penciled in a 56. Aliyah Jones tallied a 60 for North Union, while Hannah Nielsen chipped in a 63.

Kennedy Thacker earned runner-up medalist accolades by firing a 53 to top the Eagles’ winning effort.

Piper Willard (54), Julia Gardner (55) and Ella Jensen (56) rounded out Eagle Grove’s counting scores.

North Union plays host to Belmond-Klemme and Garner-Hayfield/Ventura at 4:15 p.m. Thursday back at Country Greens Golf Course in Armstrong.
