Fairmont, BEA girls golf teams 2nd, 4th at St. Peter Invite

ST. PETER — Fairmont’s Anika Haugen captured fourth overall and Blue Earth Area’s Payten Gudahl tied for fifth to steer the Cardinals and Bucs, respectively, to top-four team showings at the St. Peter invitational on Tuesday.

Haugen carded an 18-hole round of 43-40-83 to inch Fairmont within six shots of champion Byron, 366-372, during the eight-team field.

Haugen birdied the par-5 No. 2 hole to highlight her low-scoring ways at Shoreland Country Club’s course to complement her team-best six pars.

Gudahl matched Redwood Valley’s Julian Brown by firing a round of 40-44-84, fueled by a team-leading seven pars, to top Blue Earth Area’s 377 to net a tie for fourth place with Austin.

Calie Dockter penciled in a third-place individual score of 82 to propel Byron to the team championship, while Redwood Valley’s Mila Jenniges produced a first-place mark of 79 to exit with the gold medal.

Fairmont’s Solveig Senf and Blue Earth Area’s Katelyn Storbeck tied for ninth place individually by shooting a pair of 91s.

Senf turned in a round of 49-42, highlighted by three pars for the Cardinals. Katelyn Storbeck generated a 48-43 total, paced by five pars for the Bucs.

Leslie Zarling and Brynn Gustafson tallied a 45-43-98 and back-to-back 50s for a round of 100, respectively, to round out Fairmont’s counting scores.

Gustafson connected for four pars, while Zarling made three.

Madi Peyman and Cadence Montgomery rounded out the Cardinals’ efforts with a 124 and a 132, respectively.

Rylan Storbeck and Madison Ehrich completed Blue Earth Area’s counting scores on the invitational. Storbeck shot a 49-49-98, while Ehrich went back-to-back 52s for a 104. Both golfers sank one par.

Hailey Becker and Lola Lundquist contributed a 116 and a 128, respectively, for the Bucs.

Fairmont and Blue Earth Area compete in the New Ulm Invitational at 1 p.m. Thursday.

North Union 241, West Bend-Mallard incomplete (Girls) — Olivia Von Bank and Amelia Fothergill captured the top two individual spots in pacing the Warriors’ winning ways in a dual meet against the Wolverines on Tuesday at Country Greens in Armstrong.

Von Bank carded a medalist nine-hole round of 47 to top North Union, while Fothergill penciled in runner-up medalist honors with a 57.

Hannah Nielsen produced a round of 65 for the Warriors, while Aliyah Jones chipped in a 72.

Emma Weydert fired a 67 to top WBM, while Neleigh Almond (72) and Lilly Morey (73) rounded out the incomplete team score.

North Union plays host to Belmond-Klemme and Garner-Hayfield/Ventura on Thursday at North Kossuth Golf Club in Bancroft.

North Union 169, West Bend-Mallard 204 (Boys) — Teagon Fothergill bested the dual-meet field with a medalist mark of 38 to power the Warriors to a 35-shot victory over the Wolverines on Tuesday at North Kossuth Golf Club in Bancroft.

Fothergill birdied Nos. 1, 2 and 7 to complement making one par to outdistance teammate Drew Henderson, who claimed runner-up medalist honors with a round of 41.

Henderson connected for a team-best four pars, while teammate Chase Cummins birdied the sixth hole and added two pars to highlight his score of 44.

Caden Walders and Cole Nicoson each generated 46s to cap the Warriors’ counting marks, with Walders sinking three pars and Nicoson dropping home two pars. Owen Haukoos added a 49 for the Warriors.

Houston Nielsen carded a 45 and AJ Gambell delivered a 46 to top WBM’s effort.

North Union travels to Garner, Iowa, on Friday to face host Garner-Hayfield/Ventura and Belmond-Klemme.
