North Union golfers coast to victories
BRITT, Iowa — The North Union Warrior boys and girls golf lineups did not have much for competition — literally — during Monday’s Iowa high school triangular in Britt, Iowa.
Teagon Fothergill and Drew Henderson garnered medalist and runner-up medalist honors, respectively, to power the North Union boys golfers to a 178-223 triumph over North Iowa.
Ironically, host West Hancock did not have a boys team present for the scheduled triangular.
In the girls’ meet, Olivia Von Bank and Amelia Fothergill captured medalist and runner-up medalist honors, respectively, in helping North Union post a first-place total of 237.
Host West Hancock did not have a team competing, while North Iowa did not have a minimum of four golfers to count toward a team score.
Von Bank carded a nine-hole round of 47, while Amelia Fothergill finished only five shots back at 52. Aliyah Jones delivered a 64, while Hannah Nielsen chipped in a round of 74.
In the boys’ meet, Teagon Fothergill birdied the par-4 No. 2 hole and drained a team-best four pars to engineer North Union’s dual-meet victory.
Henderson made birdie on the par-4 No. 4 hole to highlight his low round of 42 to complement two pars.
Cole Nicoson generated a 46, while Chase Cummins netted a 49 to cap North Union’s counting scores. Caden Walders (54) and Owen Haukoos (56) rounded out the Warriors’ performance.
