JCC survives MCW in softball slugfest

JACKSON — Jackson County Central erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to erase a 6-3 deficit to Martin County West during nonconference softball action Monday in Jackson.

Alexis O’Reilly smacked a leadoff home run to trigger the hometown Huskies’ late offensive eruption and teammate Bailey Fink later produced a pivotal two-run triple to help JCC outslug the visiting Mavericks by an eventual 13-8 decision.

The Huskies combined five hits with eight Maverick errors to generate their double-figure run total.

Hannah Rosenberg generated three hits and one RBI to top the Mavericks’ 10-hit performance, while Maddie Carlson supplied a game-best three RBIs on the strength of two hits.

Emily Anderson contributed two hits and one RBI to MCW’s effort, while Ella Carlson and Cami Clow each supplied one hit and one RBI.

Hadley Wachal recorded two strikeouts, hit one batter and did not allow a hit in one scoreless inning of relief to net the save for the Huskies.

Brooklyn Stenzel gave up three runs on three hits, and struck out one in three innings of relief to garner the win for JCC.

Starting pitcher Maddie Carlson gave up eight runs — only three earned, struck out four and walked two in four-plus innings of work to absorb the loss for the Mavericks.

Martin County West (2-1) plays host to Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Fox Lake Sports Complex in Welcome. Jackson County Central (1-3) travels to Luverne today for a 4 p.m. doubleheader.
