Fairmont Squirt ‘B’ nets 3rd place at tournament

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont Squirt ‘B’ hockey team compiled a 3-1 record to capture third-place honors during last weekend’s regular-season tournament in Albert Lea.

Ryder Thate erupted for five of his tournament-best 16 goals to engineer Fairmont’s opening 8-2 victory over host Albert Lea.

Van Kollofski contributed one goal and a team-high two assists to Fairmont’s winning performance, while Eli Meixell and Bennett Draper chipped in one goal apiece.

Netminder Blakeley Scholl recorded 24 saves between the pipes to merit the victory for Fairmont.

Hermantown Blue outlasted Fairmont in a high-scoring second-round clash, 7-5.

Thate blasted home all five of Fairmont’s goals, with Kollofski distributing one assist and Scholl notching 14 saves in net.

Thate, Draper and Colton Schroeder combined for nine goals to steamroll Fairmont to a 10-2 third-round triumph over Elk River to qualify for the third-place game.

Thate tallied four goals, Draper finished with a hat trick and Schroeder delivered two net-finding blasts.

Cheston Aust produced one goal and one helper, Scholl doled out two assists, Levi Anderson dished out one helper, while Kollofski tallied 27 saves to earn the victory.

After trailing 4-1 in the bronze-medal game, Thate, Anderson and their Fairmont teammates rallied for a 5-4 shootout win over the KC Stars.

Thate netted the second of his two goals with 59 seconds remaining in the third period to deadlock the score at 4-4 to eventually force the sudden-death extra session.

Neither team scored during the 5-minute overtime, creating a three-player shootout to determine the victor. Anderson netted the game-winning goal, while Kollofski recorded 36 saves to trigger Fairmont’s winning performance.

Draper generated two goals and Meixell contributed one assist to Fairmont’s overall effort.

The Fairmont Squirt ‘B’ team plays host to Luverne ‘A’ at noon Saturday at Martin County Arena before hosting New Ulm/Sleepy Eye at 3:45 p.m. in Fairmont.

The Squirt ‘B’ hockey program also plays host to Rock on Ice from 7-10 p.m. Saturday at Martin County Arena.

The Carlson Dental Bantams of Fairmont outlasted Marshall in a 9-6 offensive-oriented clash last Saturday at Red Baron Arena in Marshall.

Gavin Kester, Preston Cepress and Dayton Draper combined to generate 15 total points during Fairmont’s winning performance.

Kester hammered home a team-best four goals to complement two helpers, while Cepress and Draper distributed three assists apiece. Cepress also tallied two goals and Draper netted one.

Noah Meixell and Caden Wickert each scored a goal for Carlson Dental, while Parker Schwandt, Axel Chapman and Hunter Olson doled out one assist each.

The Carlson Dental Bantams (9-12) travel to Waseca for a 7:45 p.m. game Friday night before playing host to Redwood Valley at 5 p.m. Saturday at Martin County Arena in Fairmont.

Logyn Luhmann collected a hat trick to propel the Fairmont 10U girls team to a 5-1 win over Windom Area last Saturday.

London Truesdell supplied one goal and one assist for Fairmont, Geminnie Lopez contributed one goal and Callie Parish dished out an assist.

Netminder Nola Hazard earned the win by making 11 saves for Fairmont.

Fairmont travels to Albert Lea on Saturday for an 11:15 a.m. game.

The Fairmont 12U girls hockey lineup posted a 6-0 triumph over Albert Lea last Saturday at Martin County Arena in Fairmont.

Lexi Sundeen chalked up 20 saves between the pipes to earn the shutout, while Mariel Parish collected a hat trick to pace the offense in the winning decision.

Lexi Haycraft generated two goals and one helper for Fairmont, Lauren Bettin doled out two assists, Kennedy Murphy garnered a goal and Paige Hartwig dished out a helper.

Fairmont (24-3-1) competes in the Rochester Shannon Cup 12U Tournament Friday through Sunday. Fairmont opens against River Falls Orange at 6:30 p.m. Friday night, skates against St. Paul at 11:15 a.m. Saturday and takes on Owatonna at 3:45 p.m. Saturday. Sunday’s final tournament round’s opponent and time will be determined.

The Fairmont Squirt ‘C’ squad lost a pair of games last Sunday at Martin County Arena.

Mankato Grey skated to a 10-0 win over Fairmont, with goalie Johnnie Frerichs recording 23 saves between the pipes.

Mankato Black posted an 8-2 victory Fairmont, with netminder Higgins Sukalski turning away 26 shots on goal.

Carter Spitzer generated one goal and one assist for Fairmont, while Colin Schultze added a goal.

Fairmont travels to Albert Lea on Saturday before playing host to New Ulm/Sleepy Eye on Sunday at Martin County Arena in Fairmont.
