North Union tramples North Iowa cagers, 52-19

ARMSTRONG — Libby Stevens neared double-double territory to help guide the North Union Warriors to a 52-19 rout over the North Iowa Bison during Top of Iowa Conference basketball action Friday night in Armstrong.

Stevens nearly outscored the entire Bison team by netting 16 points to complement pocketing seven steals, while teammate Naomi Jones contributed 12 points, five assists and four steals to the winning performance.

Emily Meyer collected nine points and grabbed six rebounds for North Union, while Olivia Merrill neared double-double territory by grabbing nine boards to complement scoring eight points.

Olivia Von Bank generated six rebounds, doled out six assists and pocketed four steals to round out the victorious outcome for the Warriors, who made 20 of 41 shots from 2-point range.

North Union (10-2) travels to Forest City, Iowa on Tuesday night.

Martin County West 51, Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 38 — Liv Borchardt tossed in 15 points to top a balanced Mavericks’ attack that posted a 13-point nonconference triumph over the Thunderbirds on Friday in Trimont.

Emily Anderson and Thea Anderson delivered 13 points apiece for MCW, while Ella Carlson and Kari Matejka added seven points each.

The Mavericks built a 27-14 halftime lead and never trailed in the contest.

Martin County West (5-7) travels to Mankato Loyola on Tuesday night.

Windom Area 59, Fairmont 50 — Hadley Sammons netted 16 points and Hannah Dauer chipped in 15 more to engineer the Eagles’ nine-point Big South Conference win over the Cardinals on Friday night in Windom.

Brylee Miller produced solid all-around numbers of 13 points, five assists and four steals to pace Fairmont, while teammate Nevaeh Rahm chipped in 12 points and grabbed six rebounds.

Olivia Ortega tallied seven points and doled out three assists for the Cardinals, Grace Pendergast supplied seven points, while Jazlyn Geerdes added six points, six boards and three steals.

The Cardinals made 20 of 44 field goals, including 3 of 8 behind the arc, to go with 7 of 14 shooting at the free throw line.

Fairmont (5-4) plays host to Blue Earth Area on Monday night.

Windom Area netted a 35-23 win over Fairmont during B-squad play Friday night.

Carys Gudahl supplied seven points and five steals for the Cardinals, while Kennedy Becker netted seven points and three steals.

Boys Basketball

Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther 52, Cleveland 38 — Jackson Madsen and Carter Fox each generated double-doubles to propel the Jaguars to a 14-point Valley Conference victory over the Clippers on Friday night in Cleveland.

Madsen tallied 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Fox finished with 12 points and 10 boards.

Tyson Meinert and Peyton Franzen each contributed seven points to the Jaguars’ winning ways.

The Jaguars (6-5) travel to Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial on Thursday night.

North Union 65, North Iowa 35 — Logan Odegaard erupted for a game-best double-double to ignite the Warriors’ 30-point Top of Iowa Conference rout of the Bison on Friday night in Armstrong.

Odegaard finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds, while teammate Kody Irmiter supplied 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds.

Aiden Lofstrom scored 14 points for North Union, while point guard Kyan Jones distributed a game-leading 11 assists in the victory.

North Union (8-5) travels to Forest City, Iowa, on Tuesday night.

Mankato Loyola 42, Martin County West 39 — Lawson Godfrey netted a game-best 18 points to march the Crusaders to a second-half comeback and three-point Valley Conference win over the Mavericks on Friday night in Trimont.

Mitchell Weber tossed in 16 points and doled out three assists to top the Mavericks, while Zach Anderson pocketed a double-double performance of 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Jamesson Forsberg scored eight points and Wyatt Williamson pulled down 10 rebounds to round out the Mavericks’ effort.

Martin County West (6-7) travels to St. James on Monday night.

Waseca 67, Blue Earth Area 52 — Laird Keeton scored 21 points, while teammate Damarius Russell delivered 13 points, seven assists and seven steals to power the Bluejays to a 15-point Big South win over the Bucs on Friday night in Blue Earth.

Ashton Lloyd scored a team-best 17 points, including three 3-pointers, and grabbed five rebounds to top BEA, while Abram Kokos chipped in nine points — including three treys — and four steals.

Will Bromeland generated eight points, Jack Norman chalked up six points, eight rebounds and three assists, while Austin Skaden added six points for the Bucs.

Blue Earth Area (8-3) plays host to Windom Area on Monday night.
