Area roundup: Fairmont tennis drops to Austin

PREP TENNIS
AUSTIN 6, FAIRMONT 1
FAIRMONT – Austin boys tennis won all but one match during Monday afternoon’s contest against Fairmont, beating the Cardinals 6-1.
Tyler Slama and Jonah Vetter won their doubles match against Kyler Flanders and Gavin Matyas, 6-0, 6-3.
The team is back in action on Tuesday afternoon against Worthington.
PREP GOLF
The Fairmont boys’ and girls’ golf teams competed in separate Big South Conference events on Monday afternoon. The boys went to Jackson while the girls traveled to Luverne. Both teams finished fourth in their respective events, with the boys shooting 184 and the girls shooting 214.
Jalin Jackson got the lowest score for the Cardinal boys after shooting a 44 and placing ninth overall. Hudson McKean got a 46 while Klay Beemer and Aaron Becker each shot a 47. Macklain Anderson also broke 50 with his 48.
Leslie Zarling and Katherine Zelaya led the girls with two 50s. They tied for eighth individually. Carly Gustafson got third on the team with her 53. Ingrid Edman shot a 61 while Hayden Olson recorded a 65.
PREP BASEBALL
MVL 10, GHEC/T/ML 8
NEW ULM – Minnesota Valley Lutheran scored in all but one inning during its 10-8 victory over Granada Huntley East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther on Monday afternoon. Five of those runs came in the third inning.
Landon Schneider, Bowen Sill and Lane Kruse each had a multi-hit performance, combining for seven of the team’s eight hits. Griffin Studer had an RBI double in the sixth inning, his lone hit of the night.
GHEC/T/ML will play at Nicollett on Tuesday afternoon.
