Iowa baseball playoff tilt postponed to today

ALTA, Iowa — The North Union Warriors’ postseason baseball game against the Alta-Aurelia Warriors on Tuesday night was postponed by heavy rain and thunderstorms.

North Union will square off against host Alta-Aurelia at 7 p.m. tonight in a Class 1A, District 3 semifinal game in Alta, Iowa.

North Union 9-for-9 in all-conference softball picks

SWEA CITY — The Iowa Class 2A No. 2-ranked North Union Warriors proved a perfect 9-for-9 in collecting Top of Iowa Conference West Division softball accolades for the summer campaign.

Junior ace right-hander Emily Meyer was tabbed the conference’s West Division player of the year en route to capturing first-team all-league accolades.

Senior outfielder Sam Nielsen, junior catcher Shelby Fraker and senior third baseman Cassie Beadle each earned places on the TOIC West Division’s first team for their performances during the regular season.

Senior first baseman Maggie Engelby, sophomore outfielder Naomi Jones, junior outfielder Ella Ulrich and sophomore shortstop Libby Stevens each garnered second-team all-league honors, while sophomore second baseman Beth Streuber completed North Union’s perfect effort by netting honorable mention accolades.

Five Fairmont tracksters earn academic all-state honors

FAIRMONT — Fairmont’s Macy Hanson, Ellie Hernes, Corene Moeller, Carissa Saxton and Laura Thompson earned their rightful places on the Minnesota Track & Field Coaches Association’s academic all-state team during the spring season.

The Fairmont girls track & field team achieved a group grade point average of 3.75 or higher to earn the state’s gold academic award.

The Cardinals’ boys track & field squad accomplished a group GPA of 3.50 to 3.74 to merit the silver academic award.
