FONDA – Three runs in the sixth inning were what decided the Class 1A, Region 6 semifinal matchup between Newell-Fonda and North Union on Friday night, with the Mustangs picking up the 5-2 win to advance to the Regional Championship next Monday against Remsen St. Mary’s. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Newell-Fonda finished with eight hits to power its offense. Ainsley Ulrich tossed all six innings for the Warriors, allowing five runs and striking out five batters. North Union scored one run in the third and another in the fourth. Brylie Deim led the team with three hits, two of which were doubles. Aslynn Sobolik and Kyla Irmiter each had two hits. Ulrich, Shallie Walders, and Marissa Nielsen also had a hit. Deim and Nielsen had the two Warrior RBIs. North Union struck out seven times and drew four walks. They finish the season with a 24-11 record.
