Fairmont 16/18 softball sweeps twinbill

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont Cardinals’ 16/18 softball team swept a doubleheader from Blue Earth Area, 5-1 and 3-0, respectively, on Tuesday in Blue Earth.

Allison Janssen and Nevaeh Rahm combined to pitch four innings in limiting Blue Earth Area to one run on just four hits in the opening game. Janssen allowed one run on two hits, struck out two and walked one in two innings of work to net the win. Rahm recorded five strikeouts and did not issue a walk in two scoreless innings of two-hit relief to earn the save.

Cassidy Schultz went 2-for-2 with a triple and scored two runs to top Fairmont in Game 1, while teammate Emily Muller went 2-for-2 with one RBI. Anna Ehlert doubled, singled and scored one run, while Rahm collected an RBI triple and crossed the plate once.

Ilana Moeller singled home a run and scored once, Mandy Pytleski chipped in a hit, while Janssen added one RBI to cap the opener.

Pytleski and Rahm combined to hurl a one-hit shutout in Game 2. Pytleski struck out one and allowed one hit in three shutout innings to earn the win.

Rahm fanned one in one scoreless and hitless inning of relief to net her second save of the doubleheader.

Ehlert singled and scored a run for the Cardinals, Ilana Moeller produced one RBI, Reece Olson collected a hit, while Rahm and Pytleski each crossed the plate once.

Fairmont plays host to St. James in a 6 p.m. twinbill on Tuesday at Cardinal Park.
