No. 9 Red Bulls dominate triad, improve to 14-0

WASECA — The Class AA No. 9-ranked Martin County Red Bulls improved their dual-meet wrestling record to 14-0 by trampling all three opponents during Tuesday’s quadrangular in Waseca.

The Red Bulls bested Mankato East by a 46-24 score, took care of business with a 49-22 victory over Westfield and coasted by host Waseca by a 66-12 decision.

Maddex Faber, Jesse Potts, Cooper Steuber, Carver Rohman, Gage Cyphers, Riley Allen and Max Olson each produced falls to highlight Martin County’s dominant win over Waseca.

Faber needed only 24 seconds to earn the slap of the canvas at 113 pounds, Potts rolled to a pin in 1:32 at 126, while Steuber did not need the final two periods as he notched a fall in 1:10 at 132.

Rohman exited the mat at the 1:30 juncture at 160, Cyphers required less than a minute — 49 seconds — at 170 to get his hand raised, Allen rolled to a pin in 1:13 at 195, while Olson moved to heavyweight to down his opponent in 44 seconds.

Red Bull grapplers Torrey Paplow (106), Taylor Austin (138), Kain Sanders (145) and Alec Thompson (220) all received forfeits from Waseca.

Cyphers and Olson maintained their pinning ways against Westfield, with Cyphers ending his 160-pound match in 1:01, while Olson ironically netted another fall in 44 seconds at 285.

Wyatt Williamson and Thompson joined Cyphers and Olson in the fall category by winning at 195 and 220, respectively. Thompson delivered a 38-second pin, while Williamson used 3:03 to accomplish the feat.

Potts claimed a 9-7 overtime win at 126, Austin collected a 9-6 decision at 138, while Sanders netted a 9-1 major decision at 145. Aden Welcome edged his 152-pound opponent by a 7-5 decision, while Steuber (132) and Rohman (170) received forfeits from Westfield.

Paplow, Faber, Sanders and Olson earned the slap of the canvas against Mankato East. Paplow netted a pin in 3:44 at 106, Faber delivered the early exit at 2:16 at 113, Sanders ended his 145-pound bout in 5:23, while Olson required only 23 seconds at 220.

Williamson amassed a 17-5 major decision at 182, Rohman posted a 6-4 win at 170, Welcome proved a winner at 152 by a 5-2 score, while Potts and Steuber received forfeits.

The Martin County Red Bulls (14-0) play host to a quadrangular on Saturday at Cardinal Gym in Fairmont. The Red Bulls open against Windom Area at noon, followed by MAHACA at 1:30 p.m. and Class AA No. 11-ranked Hutchinson at 3 p.m.
