Fairmont ‘passes’ to 21-point win over New Ulm girls basketball

NEW ULM — The Fairmont Cardinals just could not “pass up” producing their fourth victory in five girls basketball games this season on Thursday night.

Fairmont distributed a season’s-best 31 assists to engineer a balanced offensive attack, in addition to scorching the New Ulm nets from the field and the charity stripe, to pace a 21-point margin of victory.

Post player Cadee Becker poured in a game-leading 23 points on an incredible 10-for-12 shooting performance from the floor and grabbed five rebounds to top the Cardinals’ 83-62 Big South Conference rout over the Eagles.

Emma Gudahl and Rayah Quiring each collected 15 points and distributed five assists to help trigger Fairmont’s winning ways.

Gudahl, who made 3 of 4 shots from 3-point distance, also pocketed three steals and pulled down a team-best six rebounds. Quiring blistered the nets on 6 of 7 shots from the hardwood floor, including 1 of 2 from behind the arc.

Grace Pendergast drained a pair of 3-pointers to help pace her 12-point performance for the Cardinals to complement doling out four assists.

Maggy Totzke spearheaded Fairmont’s passing trend by dishing out a game-best six helpers to go with seven points, while Cassidy Schultz chipped in four points and three assists.

Brittney Mosloski pulled down five rebounds for Fairmont, which made 34 of 61 field goals for 55 percent, including an 8-for-21 effort from 3-point range. The Cardinals also were perfect at the free throw line, making 7 of 7.

Fairmont (4-1) plays host to Tri-City United on Tuesday night.

Nevaeh Rahm netted a double-double performance of 12 points and 10 rebounds to guide Fairmont to a 54-37 victory over New Ulm during B-squad action Thursday night.

Grace Pendergast tossed in 12 points during one half of action, Ellie Ortega tallied 10 points, while Hope Klanderud generated eight points and seven assists for the unbeaten Cardinals.

Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther 70, Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons 43 — Augustana commit Katelyn Diegnau delivered 10 points, eight rebounds, six steals and four blocked shots to power the Jaguars to a 27-point rout over the Knights on Thursday night in Alden.

McKenna Benck and Mallery Geistfeld each scored 14 points to top the Jaguars’ winning ways, with Geistfeld also pocketing five steals.

Olivia Mattson scored 10 points and blocked three shots for the Jaguars, while Jenna Balcom contributed solid numbers of six rebounds, five assists and four steals.

The Jaguars (2-0) travel to Sherburn on Tuesday night to face Martin County West.

Estherville-Lincoln Central 69, North Union 40 — Haylee Stokes tossed in a game-leading 24 points to propel the unbeaten Midgets (6-0) to a 29-point victory over the Warriors on Thursday night in Estherville, Iowa.

Naomi Jones scored nine points to top North Union’s offense, while Lily Henderson supplied seven points and pulled down six rebounds. Sam Nielsen supplied six points and nine boards for the Warriors, Emily Meyer contributed six points and doled out three assists, while Cassie Beadle added four points and three steals.

The Warriors made 12 of 24 shots from 2-point range, but only 2 of 9 behind the arc.

Jaydan Nitchals supplied 13 points for ELC.

North Union (3-1) is scheduled to play host to West Hancock tonight in Armstrong.
