No. 2 Bucs slay Giants; MCW downs A/E
Parker Meyers
BLUE EARTH — Adam Schavey, Parker Meyers and Noah Johnson each rushed for two touchdowns, while Class AA No. 2-ranked Blue Earth Area’s defense limited the Le Sueur-Henderson Giants to a negative-3 yards rushing on the game to power the Bucs’ 55-6 Homecoming football rout on Friday night at Wilson Field.
After David Gupton’s 90-yard scoring catch from Nathan Gregersen staked the Giants to a quick 6-0 lead, the Bucs countered with four unanswered scores during the opening quarter to leave little doubt about the contest’s final outcome.
Schavey, who gained 80 yards on only four totes, broke free for a 42-yard TD sprint before Gabriel Smith kicked the PAT for a 7-6 margin at the 10:00 juncture.
Schavey, who completed 4 of 5 passes for 41 yards, then zipped a 5-yard TD toss to Ashton Lloyd to extend BEA’s lead to 13-6 with 6:34 showing in the first frame.
Schavey then hammered out a 19-yard scoring gallop before Smith split the uprights with his ensuing kick for a 20-6 lead at the 3:46 mark.
Schavey then capped the opening-quarter point production with a 3-yard TD run prior to Smith’s PAT kick with only 1:55 left in the first quarter.
Noah Johnson, who topped all rushers with 144 yards on eight carries, crossed the goal line from 1 yard out for the Bucs before Smith kicked the PAT only 5 seconds into the second quarter.
Meyers, who netted 63 yards on just three rushes, then displayed his speed by scoring from 11 yards and 65 yards out, respectively. Meyers’ pair of TDs widened the Bucs’ lead to 47-6 with 7:36 left in the first half.
Noah Johnson capped BEA’s offensive outburst by breaking loose for a 65-yard scoring run, while Caleb Langager ran for the 2-point conversion with 10:59 left in the third quarter.
Blue Earth Area (4-0) travels to Sibley East next Friday night.
