Martins to play Springfield tonight

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont Martins amateur baseball team added a game to its cross-the-border schedule.

The Martins, who are 2-1 in exhibition games, plays Minnesota opponent Springfield at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Bancroft Memorial Park in Bancroft, Iowa.

The Martins are tentatively scheduled to play St. Clair at 7:30 p.m. Friday night in Bancroft.

Fairmont and every Minnesota amateur baseball program awaits their state board’s decision on how and when to return to diamond action within its own borders.

North Union softball, baseball open seasons on Tuesday

Both the North Union softball team and the Warriors baseball squad open their abbreviated Iowa high school seasons Tuesday at home.

North Union plays host to Okoboji in softball action in Swea City, with the varsity hitting the diamond at 6 p.m., followed by the junior varsity contest.

North Union hosts St. Edmond in baseball action in Bancroft, with the junior varsity starting at 5:30 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 7:30 p.m.

Clarification

The Bancroft Those Guys amateur baseball team is comprised of local players from northern and central Iowa.

The Bancroft Bandits, who are members of the Pioneer League minor league baseball system, did not return to play this season due to Major League Baseball’s shutdown due to the COVID-19.
