No. 3 Red Bulls sweep triangular with Waseca, Redwood Valley

FAIRMONT — Add two more names to the ever-growing list of Fairmont/Martin County West Red Bull wrestlers to reach the 100-win career plateau.

Cale Steuber and Miles Fitzgerald each hit the bull’s-eye by recording falls in less than a minute during the latter of two dual meets to help pace the Class AA No. 3-ranked Red Bulls’ triangular sweep Tuesday night at Cardinal Gym.

Fitzgerald, who’s ranked No. 3 in the 160-pound state poll, reached the century mark by pinning Buck Kuhns in 59 seconds during 182-pound action during the Red Bulls’ 64-8 win over Waseca.

Steuber, however, needed only 49 seconds to press Bluejay 152-pound opponent Christian Rodriguez’s shoulders to the canvas to notch his 100th career win earlier in the dual.

Fitzgerald also produced a 45-second fall over Austin Altmann during 170-pound action, while Steuber received one of six forfeits during the Red Bulls’ 67-12 rout over Redwood Valley during the home team’s first meet.

“It was a great feeling to earn a couple of wins in front of our home crowd tonight,” said Red Bulls head coach Adam Williamson. “Throw in a pair of our guys reaching milestones, and it’s a good start to dual-meet season.”

No. 2-ranked 120-pounder Lucas Jagodzinske and No. 3-ranked 182-pounder Nathan Simmonds joined Fitzgerald in the winner’s circle via a pair of pins on the triangular in Fairmont.

The Red Bulls amassed 55 points through the first 10 matches to help pace their 67-12 victory over Redwood Valley.

No. 3-ranked 106-pounder Jesse Potts posted a 12-2 major decision before teammate Cooper Steuber eked out a 3-2 win at 113 to build a quick 7-0 lead for the Red Bulls.

Kain Sanders used an arm bar to post a fall in 3:26 at 120 before Lucas Jagodzinske needed only 1:46 to earn the slap of the canvas at 126 to quickly widen FHS/MCW’s gap to 19-0.

No. 2-ranked 126-pounder Jaxson Rohman then received the first of five consecutive forfeits from Redwood Valley at 132 pounds to send the scoreboard skyrocketing to 49-0. Carver Rohman (138), No. 3-ranked 138-pounder Connor Simmonds (145), Steuber (152) and No. 2-ranked 152-pounder Payton Anderson (160) each collected forfeits for the home team.

Fitzgerald then pinned Altmann at 170 before Andy Fischer generated the first of Redwood Valley’s two falls on the night. Fischer pinned Michael Johnson in 3:29 at 182.

Nathan Simmonds countered with a fall in 2:32 over Adam Bommersbach at 195 before teammate Jacob Rahn received a forfeit at 220. No. 3-ranked heavyweight Kaleb Haase added Redwood Valley’s final six points by pinning Everardo Hernandez in 1:18.

“Just in the lineup we put on the mat tonight, we now have six guys who have cleared the 100-win mark,” Williamson said in reference to previous triple-digit winners Jaxson Rohman, Connor Simmonds, Payton Anderson and Lucas Jagodzinske. “Jacob Rahn reached the 60-win mark at Blue Earth (Maher Invitational) on Saturday, and I apologize for forgetting to talk about that earlier.”

Ironically, Rahn capped the Red Bulls’ string of 12 consecutive victories against Waseca in their second dual. Rahn’s 53-second fall at heavyweight also concluded the home team’s run of four pins in a row and six out of their final seven matches.

Trailing 8-0 after Bluejays’ 106-pounder Kaden Johnson netted a 6-4 win and No. 1-ranked 113-pounder Mason Gehloff rolled to a 25-10 technical fall, the Red Bulls stampeded to 64 unanswered team points.

Sanders’ 2-0 decision at 120 triggered the scoring avalanche before Lucas Jagodzinske’s fall in 1:28 and Jaxson Rohman’s received forfeit.

Carver Rohman chipped in a 10-6 decision, Connor Simmonds delivered a textbook 11-1 major decision, while Anderson notched a fall in 1:52 and Johnson received a forfeit in between the milestone falls by Cale Steuber and Fitzgerald.

Max Olson needed only 1:04 to earn a fall at 220 for the Red Bulls, with Nathan Simmonds and Rahn earning falls to bookend the freshman’s win.

“Now it’s back to practice this week, take care of (today) and keep moving forward,” said Williamson.

Fairmont/Martin County West (2-0) travels to Class A No. 4-ranked Blue Earth Area for a Big South dual meet Thursday, Dec. 19.
