Fairmont legion baseball splits doubleheader

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont American Legion Post 36 baseball team split a doubleheader with Le Sueur-Henderson on Saturday in Le Sueur.

Dalen Keltgen and Jordan Wolter each produced three hits to help power Fairmont to a 13-2 run-rule rout of LSH in a six-inning opener.

LSH, however, bounced back to outlast Fairmont in extra innings in the nightcap, 8-7.

Keltgen singled twice and tripled in Game 1 for Post 36, while Wolter singled three times. Lance Becker contributed a double and a single to Fairmont’s hit parade, while Joey Flohrs doubled and singled.

Blake Buntjer supplied two hits for Post 36 in the opening game, while Gavin Rodning, Noah Nelson and Jack Hested each chipped in a single.

Flohrs allowed two runs on five hits in six innings pitched to earn the complete-game victory for Fairmont. The right-hander recorded five strikeouts, issued two walks and hit one batter.

Keltgen generated two hits and drew a pair of bases-on-balls to pace Fairmont’s offensive performance during Game 2.

Tyson Geerdes, Becker and Rodning each smacked doubles for Post 36, while Buntjer and Hested chipped in singles.

Nelson started on the mound and allowed five runs on four hits and walked four in one inning of work.

Becker gave up just two runs on five hits in 6 1/3 innings of relief. The right-hander issued one walk and plunked one LSH batter.

Keltgen absorbed the tough luck loss by allowing one run on three hits, struck out one and issued one walk in 1 2/3 innings of relief.

Fairmont (1-3) travels to New Ulm tonight to face Gold in a 7:30 p.m. contest.
