Indians scratch Jaguars

SLEEPY EYE – The Sleepy Eye Public Indians edged the Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther Jaguars, 55-47, during season-opening girls basketball action Friday night in the Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s Tipoff Classic in Sleepy Eye.

Brianna Polesky netted 13 points to top Sleepy Eye’s win.

Hanna Geistfeld produced solid all-around numbers of 12 points, seven rebounds, five steals and four assists to pace the Jaguars’ performance.

Hannah Johanson delivered 11 points and pocketed three steals for the Jaguars, while teammate Kenlie Pytleski produced eight points, grabbed seven boards and rejected three opposing shots.

Macy Quinn garnered four rebounds for the Jaguars, while teammate Allyson Cegelske distributed three assists in the opener.

Sleepy Eye Public capitalized at the free throw line, sinking 13 of 26 attempts for 50 percent. GHEC/Truman/Martin Luther connected on 7 of 13 shots from the charity line for 54 percent.

The Jaguars made 17 of 38 field goals overall, including a pair of 3-pointers, for 44.7 percent in their first game of the season.

The Jaguars (0-1) travel to Jackson County Central on Tuesday night.
