MCW Students View on School Referendum To the editor: I’m sure we have all heard about the MCW school referendum. We have heard the opinions from the Vote Yes group and the Vote No group. Many of us have our strong opinions or perspectives why they lean a certain way, but we have one more group that we have heard nothing from. That group of people are the students. Not once have I heard someone say, “Well, what do the students think? What is their opinion?”. Everyone tells these kids that their voice matters all of their lives, but we haven’t taken the time to listen to what ...

Responsible Decisions for now and the Future for MCW To the editor: With less than one week until the school referendum vote is tallied, many have likely already made up their mind or even exercised their right to vote. But to those that still are studying the data…..if you think your vote does not matter, think again because IT DOES. Remember last November, the referendum failed with a difference of only 50 votes. To the Editor: I am a member of the MCW CARE Committee. MCW CARE is dedicated to informing voters about the upcoming MCW Bond Referendum. Dear MCW Community To the Editor: The May 14th election day is upon us. We have all had opportunities to attend meetings, read literature, and engage in the process. My ask of you now is that as you consider the impact of this project on your personal or business finances, that you also consider the enormity of this decision in relation to the future of the Martin County West School District. My husband and I moved back to the MCW district eighteen years ago. Our choice was intentional. We grew up here and loved the community and the school system. We wanted to start and raise our ...

Dear MCW community To the Editor: We are entering the last days before the May 14 referendum vote. We have voted “YES” and urge others to do the same. We have been excited to work side by side with others in the MCW community who imagine a bright future. You may have noticed new signs “One school, one community, one future.” In 1988, three small school districts encompassing four small towns came together because they believed they needed to join forces to provide high quality education. Demographics and community circumstances were already changing rapidly. With leadership ...

The Future of Martin County West To the Editor: Martin County West School administration has laid out a plan that, after careful study, they feel will help balance their budget while continuing to meet the ever-changing educational needs of our children. Admittedly, it isn’t cheap. The administration has been open about the plan and how they reached the conclusions that they’ve presented. The data is deep in support of this plan, and it calls upon us to band together to save our district. However, I recently attended two presentations offered by MCW CARE, where arguments were ...
