Solar project affects area families To the editor: There is a proposal before the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) that will affect Martin County, specifically Rutland Township. This is a proposal for a 1,000+ acre solar farm that will be located approximately 125 feet from my front door on Charlotte Oak Drive, on the east side of Charlotte Lake. Wednesday was an exciting day around the county as two big projects were celebrated. First, there was the Bravo Zulu House Grand Opening in Winnebago, or Northern Martin County. Then later in the day the groundbreaking ceremony for Martin County West’s new school took place in Sherburn. The energy at both of these events was extremely positive and both were well attended with several hundred at each. City selectively enforcing zoning To the editor: As a long-time resident of Fairmont, I feel compelled to speak out about a serious and ongoing issue affecting my neighborhood and our local government’s credibility. For nearly 20 years, I’ve witnessed the City of Fairmont selectively enforce zoning and construction regulations — holding some property owners to the letter of the law, while allowing others to violate ordinances without consequence. In 1956, the movie “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” hit the silver screen. Seed pods from outer space landed on Earth. If a pod were placed near a sleeping person, a visually identical copy of that person would be produced, and only the copy would be left. Each copy had the original person’s personality and memory, but no human emotion. When a parent duplicate was made, for example, the children were sure that the copies were not the real parent. Family support programs important To the editor: Autism does not destroy families, but a misguided government slashing support programs could. Family support programs were created to fill a need and have been very successful. Our legislators are asked to carefully consider the impact of their votes. Deported immigrants evil To the editor: In Randy Krzmarzick’s recent column, he says we should have empathy for the deported illegal criminals in El Salvador. He condemns Kristi Noem for doing her job, even making a snide remark about the watch she was wearing, saying he was “told” that it was a $50,000 Rolex. So I’m wondering who “told” him, and what has that got to do with the price of tea in China? He compares these prisoners with Nazi concentration camp prisoners. The people in Nazi concentration camps were innocent people. The prisoners in the El Salvador prison are ...
