Take a new poll on community center To the Editor: I agree totally with the previous letters to the editor regarding needing another vote before proceeding with the community center. I believe that there should be a new poll taken from the property taxpayers of the City of Fairmont to see if there is still support for the proposed 30 plus million dollar community center. I was told that the actual cost of the proposed community center has now most likely more than doubled from what was originally estimated. Free Kids’ Clothing Swap’ To the Editor: The Christian Church of Fairmont and Bethel Free Evangelical Church are hosting their first ever ‘Kid’s Clothing Swap’ from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on March 26, at the Christian Church located on 625 Johnson St. in Fairmont. Addressing YMCA misinformation To the Editor: We continue to be amazed by the amount of misinformation about the YMCA that continues to be published in this papers’ Letter to the Editor section. Hockey is thankful To the Editor: It’s that time of the year where winter sports are winding down and I wanted to say congratulations to the teams that advanced to the regional youth hockey tournaments this week. First, I want to say thank you to all our volunteers, parents, coaches, arena staff, CER and board members. Fantastic Support To the Editor: What a fantastic turn out and support we had for our 8th annual Coaches vs. Cancer event. A huge thank you to our basketball players, dancers, coaches, their families, the Fairmont community, our local businesses, the away basketball team from Blue Earth and many others that helped us with this event. We had 56 local businesses and families donate raffle items, 271 basketballs purchased, collected $963 from half time, $1,432 from raffles, $810 in donations, totaling $5,915. Seek feedback on community center To the Editor: I recently read an article in the Sentinel (Feb. 10, 2022), about the Community Center Advisory Board (CCAB) meeting with Tegra, the city’s owner representative for the proposed Fairmont Area Community Center. Tegra stated that they have seen a shift in communities since COVID-19 in regard to how people view a community center. Their suggestion to survey the people of Fairmont to verify what they want is reasonable.
