Last century the titans of industry, Rockefeller, Carnegie, Vanderbilt, Ford and McCormick, modernized things we utilize everyday. Union given the boot by Mayo employees in Fairmont To the Editor: Two months ago, on Jan. 3, 2022, in the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) Case Number 18-RD-288362, a petition to push the Teamsters Local 120 union out of Mayo hospital in Fairmont was officially received. This petition was circulated by Mayo employees. Results of that petition were certified two months later on March 7. St. John Vianney School raises $16,550 in just six weeks To the Editor: 2022 brought another successful Catholic Schools Raffle at St. John Vianney Catholic School. Teachers, staff and the surrounding community of Fairmont united with students and their families to raise an outstanding total of $16,550 for the school. Remember the abandoned pool? To the Editor: In 1969, citizens of Fairmont voted for a new indoor swimming pool. It was the 3rd largest pool in the state. Racing lanes ran width-wise rather than length-wise. It was located at the Middle School (now Fairmont Elementary School). Where is it now? Filled with concrete and used as a gymnasium. Why? Lack of use by the school district as a phy-ed station and by the general public. And because of enormous up-keep cost/repairs and ongoing energy cost, the City of Fairmont and the Fairmont School District decided to abandon the indoor pool. Why ...

Martin County Youth Foundation To the Editor: On behalf of the Red Rock Center for the Arts, I would like to thank you for all you do to support area youth. With so many changes over the last couple of years, youth activities at the Red Rock have remained strong. We were able to host outdoor summer camps, children’s theatre, art and music classes, open studio days, family fun days, and so much more. Medicare covers preventative services at 100 percent to prevent and/or detect diseases early when they are most easily treated. Diabetes is one such disease.
