Looking for Volunteers To the Editor: On Monday June 6, 2022, the Fairmont Area Chapter of Let’s Go Fishing begins our 13th year. We are a 501c 3 nonprofit organization founded with the purpose of enriching the lives of senior citizens, 55 years of age and older, veterans, and the disabled, through fishing and boating activities that build relationships and create memories. Our fishing and boating trips are free and our volunteers operate based on donations. FACC numbers might be misleading To the Editor: I am a retired long-time resident and taxpayer of Fairmont. I have lived in this town for almost 60 years. I wish to express my concerns about the recent City Council meeting where the Fairmont Area Community Center (FACC) representatives presented the results of the community center design survey. A first glance, the results seem impressive until you look at the numbers a little closer. In the last general election in Fairmont there were 5,283 ballots cast. FHS Agriculture/FFA Program needs your support To the Editor: I was a part of the original advisory board to bring an agriculture education and FFA program back to FHS. We met with the District and our agricultural community came out in droves to raise support and funding to get the program off its feet for the first 3 years. Thank you all. In the fall of 2012, we hired Amber Seibert as our first advisor, our first students were enrolled and classes were offered for 9-12 grade. Promoting foster care To the Editor: May is National Foster Care Month. The number of licensed county homes in Faribault and Martin Counties is at a critical low with only 12 providers who have active licenses in both counties. During National Foster Care month, I want to reach out to the community members in Faribault and Martin counties to ask if you would consider opening your hearts and homes to children in need. Children who are unable to remain in their homes for whatever reason need to be moved to a safe, stable environment. Foster care is meant to be a temporary living ...
