FHS Agriculture/FFA Program needs your support To the Editor: I was a part of the original advisory board to bring an agriculture education and FFA program back to FHS. We met with the District and our agricultural community came out in droves to raise support and funding to get the program off its feet for the first 3 years. Thank you all. Promoting foster care To the Editor: May is National Foster Care Month. The number of licensed county homes in Faribault and Martin Counties is at a critical low with only 12 providers who have active licenses in both counties. During National Foster Care month, I want to reach out to the community members in Faribault and Martin counties to ask if you would consider opening your hearts and homes to children in need. Community Center Support To the Editor: I am looking forward to the new community center with year round indoor swimming and other activities. I am happy to see the support for this in the Fairmont community. As a student in Fairmont, I am pleased that new options for activities are being developed. What is 420 Day? To the Editor: The number 420 has become synonymous with marijuana. But how and why? More than 50 years ago, a group of high school students in California decided to meet at 4:20 p.m. near their school campus to smoke marijuana and get high. Why that time? School was out, but parents weren’t yet home. The story passed around and nearly 20 years later, a group of Grateful Dead deadheads began encouraging people to smoke marijuana, now nicknamed 420, at 4:20 p.m. on 4/20.
