Preserve Lakeside Cemetery as a resource To the Editor: Recently, I had need to be considering the “final resting places” of a number of my relatives, beginning with my paternal great-grandparents, John F. and Rebecca L. Palmer, who homesteaded in Pleasant Prairie in 1882, later living, and dying, in Fairmont; but also the final resting places for my paternal grandparents, my parents, four uncles and aunts, other more distant relatives, and my sister, buried since 2003, all in Lakeside Cemetery. Grateful for Fairmont Knights of Columbus To the Editor: On behalf of the CREST Board of Directors and staff, we would like to thank the Fairmont Knights of Columbus Council 1575 for their generosity to the CREST organization in presenting us with a check for $5,000 recently. Seeking supervisor for Martin Soil and Water Conservation District To the Editor: After 12 years serving as Martin Soil and Water Conservation District 3 Supervisor, I will not be filing for the coming four-year term. I’m asking anyone who lives in District 3 which includes the townships of Tenhassen, Silver Lake, East Chain, Pleasant Prairie and Fairmont (but not the city of Fairmont) who has an interest in conservation, the environment and agriculture to become a supervisor. Support the Lakeside Cemetery Foundation To the Editor: During the past several weeks I have made several trips out to the cemetery. The love of my life was recently buried there so I’ve been there checking on her grave. More earth was placed there to bring it up to grade and grass seed was sown, which is now starting to grow. I also have noticed how carefully the grass has been mowed and trimmed around the monuments throughout the cemetery. What a beautiful place it is.
