Lynn R. Schwieger

FAIRMONT — A funeral service for Lynn R. Schwieger, 96, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 26, 2021, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Military honors by the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and the Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1222 will be held outside the church following the service. Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery, Fairmont. Visitation will be from 12-1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 26, 2021, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairmont.

Lynn passed away Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2021, at Three Links Care Center in Northfield, Minn. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Lynn R. Schwieger was born Jan. 2, 1925, the son of Theodore and Lena (Roth) Schwieger. In 1945, Lynn joined the U.S. Air Force for radar mechanics and served in the Asia Pacific theatre. Upon returning home he began farming, also working for Swift Systems of Northrop, Minn., selling grain bins, dryers, and buildings for many years. On Sept. 24, 1950, Lynn was united in marriage to Devorah Thate, daughter of Carl and Frieda Thate. Together, the couple continued to live on the family farm and were blessed to have daughters, Dori Lynn and Krista Kay. Lynn was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he served in many various roles. He sang in the church choir for nearly 70 years and was the oldest life-member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Devorah Schwieger; daughters, Dori Huemoeller and her husband, Jeff, and Krista Schwieger and special friend, Tom Eischens; grandchildren, Tate Huemoeller, Josef Huemoeller, and Alena Schwieger; sisters, Dorothy Anderst, Eunice Day, and Marlene Griffith; sisters-in-law, Ruth Schwieger, Doris Schwieger, Verdell Harmon, and Janice Thate; brother-in-law, Dan Griffith; well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Lynn was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Lena Schwieger; infant siblings, Ruth and Roy; brothers, Milton, Delbert, Gerald and James; sisters, Luverna Hartmann, Mary Armbrust and Lois Swenson; brothers-in-law, Don Swenson, Wilbert Hartmann, Roland Anderst, Don Armburst, Orland Day and Arvid Thate; sisters-in-law, Erline Schwieger, Marion Schwieger; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Carl and Frieda Thate, and their infant children, Vanner and Delores Thate. The family requests that memorials be made in Lynn’s name to Immanuel Lutheran Church of Fairmont or any veterans fund.

Lynn’s favorite color was pink. In Lynn’s honor, it is requested that those in attendance of the service wear pink. www.lakeviewfuneralhome.net
