FAIRMONT — A funeral service for Helen C. Behrens, age 90, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, 2021, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairmont, with interment in Lakeside Cemetery, Fairmont. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
Helen passed away Sunday afternoon, Dec. 12, 2021, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Fairmont. Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Helen Corrine (Anderst) Behrens was born Nov. 28, 1931, in Truman, Minn., the daughter of Carl and Alfreda (Nase) Anderst. Helen was baptized as an infant at Truman Lutheran Church and later was confirmed in her youth at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont. She attended schools in Truman, Fairmont, Owatonna, and Battle Lake, Minn. On Aug. 6, 1950, Helen was united in marriage to James Behrens. The couple resided in Fairmont and raised two children, Jeffrey and Tracey. Helen and James shared over forty-six years together before James passed away in 1997. Helen worked at Milly’s Café for two years before working as a telephone operator in Fairmont for over 15 years. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairmont. During her free time, Helen enjoyed traveling before her health prevented it, doing word-search puzzles, and spending time with her friends over a game of BINGO at the Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center or going out to eat. She also loved collecting stuffed animals, especially owls and eagles. Most recently, Helen enjoyed watching ‘Cops’ or other rescue shows on TV. Left to cherish her memory include her children, Jeff (Patricia) Behrens of Brooklyn Park, Minn., and Tracey (Leon) Sneller of Doon, Iowa; grandchildren, Adam (Emily) Behrens of Duluth, Minn., and their children, Sterling and Saren, Kayla (Kevin) Rieland of Becker, Minn., and their children, Ava and Kevin, Kelsey Behrens (Mike Butz) of Big Lake, Minn., Casey Lindsey of Burnsville, Minn., and Paige Buchmeier (Dalton Warner) of Doon, Iowa; other relatives and friends.
