Harold Lester Bentele was born July 19, 1928, in Wesley, Iowa, the son of Frank and Sophie (Kutschara) Bentele. He was baptized at St. Joseph Church in Wesley and confirmed on May 9, 1954, following his marriage. Harold attended country school in St. Benedict, Iowa, and public school in both LuVerne and Swea City, Iowa. He graduated from high school in 1946. He also served in the National Guard and received an honorable discharge in 1949. Harold was united in marriage to Dolores Krumwiede on Nov. 4, 1950, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairmont. They were then blessed with their second son, Steven, and then their third son, Bruce. Harold and his family farmed near Truman for 29 years and retired from farming in 1979.
