Marian Mildred Anderson was born Oct. 9, 1935, at home in Silver Lake Township in East Chain, Minn. Marian attended country school in District 6 for eight years. She graduated from East Chain High School in 1954. From 1954-1958, she attended Mankato Teacher’s College with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education. She taught three years in Montgomery, Minn. In 1961, she was united in marriage to Lyle Kenneth Anderson at Holy Family Catholic Church in East Chain, Minn. They celebrated 59 happy years together. They were blessed with three children, Mary, Ann, and Thomas, which were her greatest joy. They raised their family in Lake Belt Township, rural Ceylon. Marian was an excellent cook and prepared many meals for the neighbors who came to help with shelling corn or baling hay. She loved spending time in her garden and had the most beautiful flowers in front of her house. Marian was employed part-time at Ceylon Public School after her children were born. She was involved in Title 1 and taught music. She was later employed full-time at Ceylon Public School. Marian had a passion for teaching and in the 30 years of her career, she touched the lives of many of her students. For many years, she was head negotiator for teacher’s salaries and was successful in obtaining fair wages for her colleagues. In her retirement she was a substitute teacher at Trimont, Sherburn and Fairmont Schools. She was an active member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn and looked forward to being a song leader at mass and singing in the choir. Marian loved music whether it was singing, listening or dancing to it. She always enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s concerts and musicals. They brought her so much joy. Marian also enjoyed playing cards, doing puzzles, embroidering towels and having coffee with friends. One of her greatest blessings was her eight grandchildren. When they would visit, she would spend hours reading to them especially at night before bedtime. She is survived by her husband, Lyle Anderson of rural Ceylon, Minn.; daughter, Ann (Pat) Soderlund of New Prague, Minn.; son-in-law, Doug Rossbach of rural Hanska, Minn.; daughter-in-law, Carol (Don) Rodgers of Centralia, Mo.; grandchildren, Joseph, Elizabeth, Michael and his wife Angela, Anthony, Mary, Sarah, Anna and Nels; sister-in-law, Luella (Ted) Fisher of Fairmont/Swea City, Iowa; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
