He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. After his honorable discharge, he spent a year at the University of Minnesota, where he met his future wife.

On Aug. 16, 1975, Pete married the love of his life, Julie. They later settled in Mantorville, where they have resided for 40 years. He instilled in his family a love and appreciation of nature and the outdoors. Pete was a hard worker, generous, never complained and always greeted you with a big smile and a funny story from his vast range of life experiences.
