ARMSTRONG — Shirley Ann Hovick passed away Monday, March 18, 2019, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn., at the age of 82. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2019, at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Armstrong, Iowa, with Pastor Lauri Boysen as Officiant. She will be laid to rest at Armstrong Grove Cemetery, Armstrong.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, March 22, at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Armstrong.
Shirley Ann Hovick was born Jan. 11, 1937, in Martin County, Minn., the daughter of Walter and Ella (Raatz) Krumwiede. Shirley attended country schools in rural Martin County and graduated from St. James High School in 1955.
She was united in marriage to Merlyn Hovick on Nov. 1, 1963, in Sioux Falls, S.D. The couple was blessed with one son, Bradley Hovick. The couple made their home in Armstrong.
Shirley worked in numerous jobs throughout her lifetime, including a doctor’s office, nurse’s aide for many years at a nursing home, a waitress, the Armstrong Shopper and AEROSPACE Systems in Fairmont for over 20 years.
In her leisure time, she greatly enjoyed playing cards with friends, going fishing and shopping, cooking meals for her family and going to casinos.
She is remembered by her family as a great story teller, a warm, friendly, fun, creative and welcoming person along with being a great baker of delicious lemon pies, being a hard worker, a loving wife, mother and sister.
Shirley was a member at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Armstrong and the VFW Auxiliary.
She enjoyed spending time on the golf course as well.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Merlyn of Armstrong; sister and brother-in-law, Gaylene (Richard) Grabinger; brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth (Jane) Krumwiede; sisters-in-law, Marion Krumwiede, Pat Krumwiede and Helen Krumwiede; Mert’s brothers and sister, Eldon (Donna) Hovick, John (Marilyn) Hovick, Alvin (Peggy) Hovick, Joyce (Donald) Leach; and many nieces and nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death by her son, Bradley; parents; brothers, Leland, Walter, Gerald and Lloyd Krumwiede.
In lieu of flowers, Shirley’s family prefers memorials be directed to Nazareth Lutheran Church.
