Jean Marie (Saxton) Palmer was born Sept. 22, 1951, in Fairmont, Minn., the daughter of Neil Curtiss and Shirley Anne (Grant) Saxton. She attended school in Fairmont and graduated from Fairmont High School where she was active in the drama club and orchestra. Following her graduation, Jean went on to attend Brown Technical College where she earned her degree.

Jean was a very active person and involved in various groups. During her time in Fairmont, she was a member of the Fairmont United Methodist Church and the Fairmont Saddle Club. Jean was also a member of Job’s Daughters, where she held the position of Honored Queen and was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star where she was a past Worthy Matron.

Jean went on the meet and later married John Palmer, and the couple made their home in various areas of Alaska. Jean had a good sense for business and a tremendous entrepreneurial spirit. She loved the Alaskan lifestyle and enjoyed the many businesses she created with John. She worked as a realtor, a furrier, a jeweler, and ran a number of Alaskan-themed retail gift shops. Jeannie and John also spent time mining for gold in the interior of Alaska. She was a gracious host and a wonderful story teller.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, John Palmer of Nikiski, Alaska; stepchildren; step-stepgrandchildren; siblings, Pat (Joel) Reed of Canby, Minn., Sue (Jim) Duffey of Fairview, Mont., Bart Saxton of Fairmont, Minn.; brother-in-law, Arden Hanson of Sherburn, Minn.; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Neil and Shirley Saxton; and a sister, Linda Hanson.
