Garden Party & Plant Swap a success To the Editor: City of Lakes Garden Club hosted its third garden party and plant swap on Saturday, June 11, in conjunction with Interlaken Heritage Days. The event was held at Lincoln Park on a cool drizzly morning but we didn’t let a little rain stop our fun. Garden enthusiasts from all over the area were able to bring garden-related items to swap with others and take home new treasurers for their own gardens. Thanks for supporting poppy program To the Editor: Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1222 in Fairmont would like to thank Walgreens, Sterling Drug and Fareway Foods with our poppy program. Also, a special thank you to the public. All over the world the red poppy flower symbolizes remembrance for our fallen soldiers. Pontoon rides offered by LGF Let’s Go Fishing is in its 13th year of taking out seniors, veterans and the disabled on Fairmont’s lakes. The group is made up of about 40 volunteers all who make these trips possible and we’d like to thank them for their dedication. When Tragedy Strikes To the Editor: On June 19, 2020, the most unfathomable accident happened. I was traveling to Fairmont, Minn. from Truman, Minn. on County Road 39. My plan was to pick up my boys and camp out for the weekend. However, what I didn’t know at the time was that Kay Sandersfeld had just finished supper with her husband, Ron. Then she set out on a bicycle ride. While traveling to pick up my boys, I accidentally struck Kay with my motor vehicle. Her life was tragically taken that evening. CO2 and something to ponder To the Editor: The surface of the earth is two thirds water. What happens when you open a warm can of pop? What happens when you open an ice cold can of pop? The fizz in pop is CO2, carbon dioxide. When the soda pop is canned, each can have the same amount of carbon dioxide. The oceans contain dissolved carbon dioxide.
