Welcome City Council considers quote

WELCOME — The Welcome City Council met on Tuesday evening and opened a quote of $34,000 from Rosburg Construction about the open ditch and creek site, which lets water overflow for if the council decides to fix those waterways. The owners of the property are the Olsons, and the railroad and the County Road 27 construction were part of the problem in that area. The council tabled any action for now and will contact the County supervisor.

The public works employee reported the information about the grader warranty for the maintenance plan the council asked for at the previous meeting. The oil changes would be no charge and any unforeseen large repair would be covered. The warranty provides a complete overhaul of the grader every five years as part of the warranty. The city is in year four currently and approved getting the warranty for $15,000 for next year. When asked how many hours the grader used, the answer was between 250 and 500 if it snows and less if it doesn’t.

Police Chief Yochim reported that there have been vehicles on the street during snow emergencies, but they were taken care of. He reminded the council that there are retirement events for Officer Sergeant Gina Jorgensen to commemorate her 37 years of service to Martin County from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 9, at Sherburn City Hall, and from 9 to 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 9, at Fairmont’s law enforcement center.

During public comment, one resident requested a monthly balance for funds. He will sign a data request and pay the fee required.

Another resident requested action about the intersection of Quarterline and First Streets as there is an incline and, with snow, the vehicles slide through to the intersection, which is dangerous. The resident asked about engineers checking that incline. The council will investigate and ask the public works employees to put more sand there for now.

In other news, the council:

— Approved the fee schedule in the code book with one increase for water connection to $75.

— Approved the committee assignments and designations of newspaper, bank, etc.

— Approved the signers for the checking account as the mayor and the clerk, and authorized the clerk to transfer only for the City Savings Accounts.

— Approved the purchase of the water plant pump repair.

The Welcome City Council’s next meeting will be at 6 p.m. on Jan. 20 at the City Hall.

Starting at $2.99/week.
