Ruby’s Pantry distribution Aug. 18

SHERBURN — The Tuesday Coffee Hours continue from 8:30 to 10 a.m. each Tuesday in August at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn. The LWML ladies’ group at St. John’s does not meet in August.

The LWML ladies’ group at St. Paul’s Wilbert will meet at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 14. St. John’s LWML are gathering items for moms and babies in the box in the entry of the church. A list of needed items is in the newsletter.

The youth group would like to thank all those who purchased sweet corn from their sales booth at the Sherburn Nursery and also thank the Sherburn Nursery for letting them use that good location. Thank you to all who volunteered too. They will be selling a few sweet corn ears each Sunday after the 8:30 service in August. St. John’s would also like to thank the volunteers and those who participated in the Camp Omega Day Camp in July. They had 61 campers at the sessions. St. John’s continues their 8:30 a.m. services in August and area residents are welcome to join them.

The American Red Cross blood drives continue with a drive on Aug. 22 at the American Legion Hall in Fairmont and on Sept. 2 and 3 at the Best Western in Fairmont. The blood drive in Sherburn on Aug. 4 collected 56 units. Thank you to donators and volunteers at the canteen and registration.

Sundaes at the Park will conclude with entertainment by Ryan and Braelyn Faber at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 17 at the Triumph Memorial Park in Trimont. The inclement weather location is at the Sinn Celebration of Life Center in Trimont.

The Martin County Fair is in Fairmont this week, Aug. 11 to Aug. 17, plan to attend Minnesota’s Other Big Fair. Good luck to all the exhibitors.

For one more weekend, the Sherburn Theatre will show “The Naked Gun” at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 4 p.m. on Sunday. The Sherburn Theatre will take a hiatus for a while after this weekend.

The Trimont Farmer’s Market will be held from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesdays at Anderson Park in Trimont. Coffee, treats and children’s activities are part of the fun with the good produce and crafts for sale. Plan to attend.

Ruby’s Pantry will have a grocery distribution from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Aug. 18 at the parking lot of the Regional Worship Center (south of Interstate 90) in Sherburn. There are no residential or income guidelines. $25 will get a trunkful of grocery items. Facebook has a partial list of items the week before the date.

Marlene Kuntz from Sherburn celebrated her 88th birthday on Aug. 8. She resides at the Temperance Lake Ridge facility. Happy birthday. Tom and Diane Nelson will be celebrating their 60th Wedding Anniversary with and open house from 12 to 2 p.m. on Aug. 31 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn. They request your presence, not your presents. Congratulations on a wonderful milestone for the Nelsons.

The Martin County West (MCW) School Board will meet at 6 p.m. on Aug. 18 at Sherburn Elementary School. Online registration continues. Forms and information are in the newsletter and on the website at www. martin.k12.mn.us That website also has a link for information about the new school project. The first day of school will be on Sept. 2 for grades 7 to 12 and on Sept. 4 for the grades from kindergarten to 6. An open house for all 7 to 12 grade students will be from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m. on Aug. 27. A new special new student orientation will be from 4:15 to 6:20 p.m. at the high school. The Community Education and Recreation (CER ) has scheduled a Kinder Kamp session, for those attending the Kindergarten at MCW this year, from 8 to 11 a.m. from Aug. 18 through Aug. 20 at the Sherburn Elementary School. They also have a session for Child Care Safety and Babysitting and a Home Alone session on Aug. 21. There are plans for a Flag Football session from 6 to 7 p.m. from Sept. 8 to Oct. 7.
