Ceylon anniversary celebrations next weekend
CEYLON — Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Ceylon will have their Saturday evening service tonight at 5:30 p.m. They are planning a service at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9. There will be no services during the rest of August. Their next Saturday service is scheduled for Sept. 6. August services for the Circle of Faith Parishes are scheduled for 9 a.m. on Sundays at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ceylon and 10:30 a.m. services at Waverly Lutheran Church north of Welcome. St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilbert continues their summer services Sundays at 10 a.m. during August. Area residents are welcome to join these congregations for services.
Sundaes at the Park will feature Glenn Hendriksen as the entertainment at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 3 at the Triumph Memorial Park (two blocks east of Highway 4). In case of inclement weather, it will move to the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center Trimont Chapel in Trimont.
Tuesday Coffee Hours continue from 8:30 to 10 a.m. each Tuesday morning in August at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn. Join friends and neighbors for good coffee and great fellowship. Ceylon Coffee Lovers group meets from 8:30 to 10 a.m. each Thursday in the back room of Lake Belt Bar and Grill in Ceylon. Area residents are welcome to join them.
The Friendship Club from St. John’s invites area residents to join them for breakfast at 9 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 4 at the Green Mill restaurant patio in Fairmont. Membership at St. John’s is not required.
The St. Peter Lutheran Church ladies group WELCA will meet at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 6 at the church. Shirley Schmidt is scheduled as hostess. All members are encouraged to attend the meeting.
The CREST Lunch and Learn program will be held (at 212 North Prairie) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 6 at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Sherburn. The program will be about fraud and presented by Stacie Wolter from Bank Midwest. There will be a roast beef lunch following the program. These programs are free to any senior citizen in Martin County. CREST does appreciate a free will donation for the lunch.
The American Red Cross blood drives will be at the Regional Worship Center in Sherburn on Aug. 4 from 1 to 6 p.m., Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont on Aug. 6 and at LiveFit Gym in Fairmont on Aug. 8 and at the American Legion in Fairmont on Aug. 22. Give blood if you are eligible since there is an urgent need for blood now. Thank You.
The Ceylon Area Historical Society will open the museum from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 3 for the last summer Sunday event. The museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9, as part of the Ceylon 125th anniversary celebration, and they will seal the Time Capsule. They are open to residents donating items for the time capsule before they seal it. Contact any of the directors with your item suggestion. The Directors are: Ronnie Leiding, Jim Plumhoff, Greg Bents, Marilyn Stelter, Steve Houfer and Ann (Wenzel) Yackle.
The celebration of Ceylon’s 125 Anniversary of their founding will be from Thursday, Aug. 7 to Sunday, Aug.10 with several events. The Lake Belt Bar and Grill will have Line Dancing lessons at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 7. The Lake Belt Bar and Grill will have Bingo at 6 p.m. and Live Music by the band Door 49 at 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 8. A Vendor Show will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Contact Amy Laue at 507-317-5352) and karaoke with Rob at 8 p.m. on Aug. 9 at the Lake Belt Bar and Grill. The other events planned to be held at Mondale Park include: a petting zoo and a Classic Car Show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Face Painting from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Bouncy Houses from 1 to 5 p.m. and an outdoor movie at 7 p.m. Sounds like a fun day in Ceylon. Plan to attend.
As part of the Ceylon celebration the Ceylon Fire Department Relief Association will have one of their delicious Pancake Feeds from 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday, Aug. 10. The menu includes scrambled eggs, pancakes, French toast, ham, sausage and juice. Plan to attend this delicious event and help a good cause at the same time.
