Cribbage play starts next Saturday

WELCOME — Today, there’s a Red Cross Blood Drive from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the LiveFit Gym in Fairmont. Call 800-733-2767 (800-red-cross) or go online to www.redcrossblood.org or text the blood app to 90999, to make an appointment, find locations of blood drive times available, and other information. Blood is urgently needed now so give it if you are able. Each unit may save as many as three lives. St. Paul’s Church in Welcome would like to thank all the area residents who donated blood at their Sept. 30 Blood Drive and Thank you to Valero Volunteers and canteen worker volunteers. 23 units of blood was collected and will go toward patients in need of life-saving blood transfusions.

The City of Welcome is asking that residents stay clear of the old Welcome School building since preparations for demolition may pose a safety concern. The Active Shooter training held recently was “phenomenal”, said Chief Yochim. The Martin County Sheriff’s department held the training. It was helpful and interesting.

The Circle of Faith Parishes are in their October service schedule so Waverly Lutheran Church north of Welcome will have 9 a.m. services and St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ceylon will have 10:30 a.m. services on Sundays in Oct.

The City of Welcome has hired Jodi Hemann as the new Clerk at City Hall. Thank you to Deb Hansen who will retire officially as soon as the new clerk is acclimated to her new job.

At 1:15 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12 the first date for the Cribbage Tournament play will be at Welcome Legion Hall. The Sherburn Theatre will show the movie ‘White Bird’ this weekend with showtimes at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 4 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $5 and there is a concession stand available.

The Sherburn Theatre will also be the site for a political forum for local, county, and state candidates for offices at 7 p.m. on Oct. 30. sponsored by the Civic and Commerce Club in Sherburn.
