Community chest seeking donations
SHERBURN– October has begun. Signs of fall are everywhere. Please have a safe harvest season in the fields, on the roads, and in the bins.
Today, there is a Lunch-N-Learn program scheduled that will begin at 11 a.m. for the Senior Center in Sherburn by the City Hall with a program about Pumpkins by Joyce Peterson. A lunch will follow the program featuring ham balls, squash, cranberry wild rice bread, homemade applesauce, and pumpkin cookies from Schmidt’s Bakery. The Lunch-N-Learn programs are free for any senior citizen from Martin County, but they appreciate a free-will donation for the lunch.
Tonight is Hamburger Night from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sherburn Legion. They are offering a hamburger with all the fixings, a salad, and baked beans for only $10. The Sherburn Legion Auxiliary will meet at 7 p.m. on Oct. 8. All members are encouraged to attend.
The Friendship Club from St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn will NOT have a meeting in October but is planning a potluck for Thanksgiving in November. Watch for the date.
Sherburn Theatre will feature the movie ‘White Bird’ this weekend. Showtimes are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 4 p.m. on Sunday.
The community chest in Sherburn relies on mail or drop-off donations since there is a lack of volunteers to go door to door. Mail donations to Sherburn Community Chest P.O. Box 504, Sherburn, MN 56171, or drop off a donation at the Bank Midwest in Sherburn until Oct. 31.
Red Cross Blood drives will be held on Oct. 4 at Live Fit in Fairmont, Martin Luther High School in Northrop on Oct. 21, and at Fairmont Legion on Oct. 25. Call the 800-733-2767 (800-red-cross) number or go online to www.redcrossblood.org to make an appointment or for further information.
The Mayo Mobile Clinic will be in Sherburn from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 7 and 9, near the City Hall. Call the appointment number 507-238-8500 and mention Sherburn Clinic.
Martin County West celebrated Homecoming last weekend and crowned Josh Robem as the Homecoming King and Bella Fitzgerald as the Homecoming Queen. Prince and Princess were Jacob Wilmes and Avery Sanders. The Senior Class would like to thank all those who helped and bought Chili at their fundraiser.
St. Luke’s Catholic Church would like to remind members that their fall schedule starts in Oct. and services will be Sunday morning at 10:30 through December.
Martin County West athletes are busy with Cross country boys and girls meeting in Fairmont at Cedar Park tomorrow, Oct. 3, at 4:30 p.m. Volleyball will also meet tomorrow at 7 p.m. at Trimont with Madelia’s team. Friday there will be a Football game at Sleepy Eye at 7 p.m. and on Saturday, Oct. 5, there will be a Junior High Volleyball Conference tournament at 8 p.m. at Trimont. Monday the Volleyball team meets Blue Earth at Trimont at 7 p.m. and then they battle Alden Conger on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The FFA has plans for fundraisers like Fruit Sales and Corn Drive in Oct.. The Elementary students will have Candy Bar Sales now until Oct. 14 to raise money for field trips. Upcoming Events include a Political Forum on Oct. 30 at the Sherburn Theatre at 7 p.m. to ask questions of local, county, and state candidates for office sponsored by the Civic and Commerce Club.
