Police report accident fatality

FAIRMONT — On Saturday, Aug. 24, 2024, at approximately 8:28 p.m., Fairmont Police Officers were dispatched along with Mayo Clinic Ambulance to the parking lot of 500 South State Street in Fairmont for a report of a pedestrian that had been struck by a motor vehicle.

Officers arrived shortly after to find a 77-year-old male resident of Winnebago, Minn. being attended to by several people in the parking lot in front of Fareway Foods. Mayo Clinic ambulance arrived shortly after and transported the victim to Mayo Clinic Health Systems Fairmont Campus. The victim was then immediately flown via helicopter to Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Rochester. The victim later passed away from his injuries in the early morning hours of Aug. 25, 2024.

The vehicle that had struck the pedestrian was driven by a 49-year-old male resident of Truman, Minn. The names of those involved are not being released at this time as the incident remains under investigation.

The Fairmont Police Department was assisted on scene by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office and the Mayo Clinic Ambulance.
