Lions plan pancake breakfast Sunday

SHERBURN — Wow….March 1st is today. Have we left the ugly February weather behind? We hope so. Now comes the muddy season. Can spring be far behind?

To celebrate March why not go to the Sherburn Legion’s Hamburger Night from 5-8 p.m. tonight at the legion club. A burger, salad and beans cost only $10. Good food for a good cause.

There will be a CREST-sponsored Lunch and Learn program beginning 11 a.m. today, March 1, at the Sherburn Senior Citizens Center near the city hall building on First Street. This is free for anyone in Martin County and informs many about different topics. The lunch is light and a free will donation for that is appreciated, but not mandatory.

CREST is also sponsoring a caregiver support group meeting at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 6, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Trimont. For any information, contact CREST at (507) 235-3833.

The Sherburn Lions Club will have a pancake breakfast from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday, March 5, in the cafeteria at Martin County West High School in Sherburn. Another way to celebrate March and help for a good cause and delicious food.

Area churches are having mid-week Lenten services during Lent. St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn has Tuesday evening Lenten services at 5:30 p.m. including stations, mass and a meal. St. John’sLutheran Church has Lenten services at 6 p.m. on Wednesday evenings followed by a light meal. Circle of Faith parishes meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome for the month of March. All area residents are welcome to join any of these congregations for services.

Sherburn Theatre will again feature the movie ‘Jesus Revolution’ this weekend, March 3-5. Show times are 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Most of the Martin County West school activities are sectional sports events. There is an FFA contest for fish, wildlife, and small animal vet science today, March 1, in Tracy. And there is a contest for employment skills, crops, ag sales, ag mechanics, and FBM scheduled March 7 in Jackson. On March 2 and March 7 there will be Knowlege Bowl meetings. March 6 is the date for solos and ensemble music contest at MSU in Mankato. Good luck Mavericks. The meeting for parents and students about the senior class trip was postponed due to weather and will now be held 6:30 p.m. March 9, at the MCW High School cafeteria in Sherburn. The senior trip this spring will be to Washington D.C. MCW schools have planned an early dismissal for March 15. They urge anyone to follow the school activities and news on the website, www.martin.k12.mn.us and the school Facebook page.

Upcoming events include Early Childhood Screening which needs to be done before registration for kindergarten in Martin County West Schools. It is scheduled for April 5. Any family with children, ages 3-5 years, should have received a letter about this. If you did not receive a letter please contact the school at (507) 764-4461 or

meganmorgan@mcwmavericks.org prior to April 5th.
