CEYLON — There is a cribbage tournament today, Feb. 18, at the Welcome Legion Hall, with registration beginning at 1:15 p.m. Anyone who likes to play cribbage is welcome. The registration fee is $11 which is paid back in prizes. They meet every second and third Saturday, November to March. Sounds like a fun afternoon.

There is a Bible class at 9:30 a.m. every Tuesday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Ceylon. Our Savior’s Church will have a 6:30 p.m. Ash Wednesday service on Feb. 22, with communion as a joint service with their dual congregation from Wilbert. The two

congregations will alternate midweek Lenten Wednesday services at 6:30 p.m. during Lent. The Lenten service on March 1, will be at Wilbert. Circle of Faith parishes will meet on Ash Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Trimont, then all midweek Lenten

services during Lent will be held 6:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome. Area residents are welcome to join any of these congregations for worship.

A Coffee Lovers group will meet 8:30-10 a.m. every Thursday at the Lake Belt Bar and Grill. Area men and women can enjoy good coffee and great fellowship.

The Lake Belt Bar and Grill in Ceylon will have a special event on Saturday, Feb. 25. The Tank Anthony Band will perform beginning 8 p.m. Pre-sale tickets are $5 and tickets at the door are $8. Plan to attend the concert.

American Red Cross blood drive will be held noon to 6 p.m. Feb. 27, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Welcome. Call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or go online to www.redcrossblood.org. There is an urgent need for blood at this time so give if you can.

Upcoming events include:

• A pancake brunch fundraiser for the Ceylon Fire Department

Relief Association will be held 9 a.m. to noon on March 12, in the back room at the Lake Belt Bar and Grill.

• The 88th annual Ceylon Community Day auction and garage sale this spring will be held Saturday, April 15. The non-profit Helping Hands of Ceylon will have a garage sale and anyone may donate items to the sale. If delivery is not available they will come and pick

up the item(s). Proceeds help the group provide community events and helping hands. They ask for clean items in good repair and small furniture (no large appliances or furniture please). For further information, call (507) 236-9907. Plan to be in Ceylon that day.

I am looking for signs of spring and I guess Community Day plans would be one sign. The Dairy Queen opened in Fairmont on Feb. 10, and March is just around the corner in one and a half weeks. The date for turning clocks ahead is March 12, the first official day of

spring is March 20, and Lenten season are all signs of spring.

Starting at $2.99/week.
