FAIRMONT– On the first day of filing, three residents declared their intent to run for open seats in the city of Fairmont.

Incumbent Randy Lubenow of 217 Hampton St. S., filed to retain his Ward 3 seat.

Current Mayor, Deb Foster, of 101 Albion Ave., also filed for the Ward 3 seat.

Jay Maynard of 1831 Oakwood Ave. filed for the Ward 1 seat.

No one had yet filed as a candidate for Fairmont mayor at the end of the day Tuesday.

Filing for council must be completed at the city clerk’s office at City Hall. Candidates must pay a $5 filing fee and fill out an affidavit of candidacy.

Anyone wishing to become a candidate must have maintained residence in the district from which the candidate seeks election for at least 30 days before the general election, be at least 21 years of age and be a registered voter in Fairmont.

The clerk’s office is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays. Aug. 16 is the last day to file.
