Coffee hours Thursday
CEYLON — Today there is a Welcome Festival parade at 3:30 p.m. The Welcome Legion will have a pork chop feed after the parade. Several nearby towns have special summer festivals.
Circle of Faith parishes including St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ceylon are reminded that Wednesday evening services in July will be held 7 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome. Area residents are welcome to attend services with all the area churches.
There are coffee hours from 8:30-10 a.m. each Thursday at Legends ll. Area men and women are welcome to join them. Tuesday Coffee Hours continue in July at the Regional Worship Center in Sherburn except for this Tuesday, July 19, due to other church commitments. Join them from 8:30-10 a.m. on July 26.
Condolences to the family of Gerald O’Sell, who passed away last week. He was a former Dolliver/Ceylon area resident. He will be missed.
Upcoming events include the second Ceylon Auction on July 23. Only farm equipment, no household items for this sale. Consign with the Howell Auctioneers. Also, the Ceylon Area Historical Society Museum will next be open from 1-3 p.m. on Aug. 7, the first Sunday for the month of August.
Just a reminder that church services at St. Paul’s Lutheran in Wilbert will be held at 10:30 a.m. for one Sunday, July 24, to accommodate a guest pastor’s schedule. The other services are scheduled for 9:30 a.m. as usual.
The Legion charter in Ceylon may have to be turned in or merged with another charter/post. The low turnout for meetings is the reason the Ceylon post is having meetings with the three Second
District representatives at 7 p.m. on Aug. 9, at Legends ll or Lake Belt Bar and Grill. There are lots of steps to merge with another post. Ceylon post officers are requesting people to let their opinions be known and to communicate their ideas, suggestions and any food for thought. Commander, Allen Kahler, said, “it takes more than a handful of people to do all that needs to be done. We need to communicate what we can do and support is needed from legion members and community members.” They do not want to turn in their charter but low attendance at meetings has been the reason for the discussion about the charter or merging with the Welcome Legion post. Attendance at any meeting does not mean the Legion member would be elected to an office, but there are so few that the things that need doing are in jeopardy, like funerals and paying bills.
Legion members and community members are invited to attend the meeting August 9th at 7 p.m.
