Activity-sports forms are available at MCW

SHERBURN — Ruby’s Pantry will be in Sherburn again from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Monday in the Martin County West High School parking lot.

Food will be loaded into the back of your pickup or the trunk of your car. No one needs to get out of their vehicle.

Cost is $20 for a great deal of food, and there are no residency or income restrictions.

Martin County West School offices are now open with regular hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Activity/sports forms can be picked up at the high school’s main entrance this week. When the forms are completed they may be dropped off at the same location.

All materials and fees are due by 3 p.m. Thursday to ensure your child is on the roster and can begin the season. They are doing this rather than having one night this year when they are accepting sports forms and fees.

The Minnesota State High School League meeting will be held virtually on the first day of practice. A video for parents will be made available Aug. 17 on the school website.

Some other sports-related changes at Martin County West School: All physicals have been given a one-year extension. If your student was due for a physical this year, you may skip this year.

Sports physicals will still be needed for all seventh-graders and anyone else who has not participated in the past.

Football and volleyball practice seasons will be considered “non-competitive” seasons by the Minnesota State High School League. There are no fees for the “practice seasons” for volleyball and football. The normal volleyball and football fees will apply if there is a competitive season in the spring.

Martin County West FFA will sponsor a movie called “Silo” at the Sherburn Theatre during the weekend of Aug. 21-23. The movie is the first-ever feature film highlighting the dangers of grain bin entrapment and follows the story of a teenager who becomes trapped in a bin of grain, and how the community works together to try to save him.

Showtimes are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday.

The movie tickets are free. There will be a maximum of 98 tickets available for each of the four showings. COVID-19 guidelines will be followed and masks are mandated inside the theatre.

To attend, you must reserve your tickets in advance. To reserve them, email stephaniewohlhuter@mcwmavericks.org or call (507) 236-4181. Please give your name, email address, the number of tickets you would like, and the date/time of the show you would like to attend.

Each person attending also will receive a free bottle of water and a bag of popcorn.

Regional Worship Center in Sherburn is continuing its community breakfasts from 8-10 a.m. each Monday morning at the church located at 2 Crossroads Drive. Donations accepted for the meal and they welcome everyone.

Lavonne (Pennie) Kittleson will celebrate her 90th birthday Aug. 20. Her family is hosting a drive-by birthday parade for anyone who would like to wish her a happy birthday.

They are asking that you drive through the circle driveway between 3:30-5:30 p.m. that day at LaVonne and Norman’s home at 668 140th St., rural Sherburn.

They ask that you bring smiles, cards, signs, noisemakers, etc. No gifts, and please remain in your vehicle. LaVonne will be there to see and greet you as you drive through.
