Firm updates Welcome council

WELCOME – Welcome City Council this week heard from a Bevcomm representative, who discussed a local water main accident and suggested the company will be liable for the bill from Beemer Company.

The council agreed to table the matter to investigate it and consider paying for asphalt restoration.

The Bevcomm representative mentioned there may be an issue on Bidwell Street, between Homewood and Weaver. He will double check where the company dug and report back.

He noted that about 150 people had signed up for service and that in about two weeks the company should be getting lines to houses through its service crew.

In other business, the council:

o Approved leasing a tractor from John Deere for $30 per hour for nine months. It also approved purchase of a new copy machine for the clerk’s office.

o Heard a report from Travis Winter of Bolton & Menk engineering. He said paving is finished and that M.R. Paving & Excavating, Inc. of New Ulm is patching and seeding, and the 2019 reconstruction project should wrap up next week.

o Discussed mowing at the ball park. The city mows outside the fence. The mayor will check with the school and joint powers group about mowing inside the fence.

o Learned that the citywide cleanup day has yet to be scheduled.

o Learned the next meeting of the City Council will be 6 p.m. June 2 at City Hall.
