Magician to perform Thursday at Sherburn Theatre
SHERBURN — Today the St. John’s ladies group LWML will meet at 2 p.m. at the church. All members are encouraged to attend. The St. John’s Youth Group will be in Nashville for a Mission Trip this weekend. The Camp Omega Day Camp is in session this week at St. John’s.
The Ladies Group from Immanuel Lutheran Church in Dunnell will host a BBQ Pie Social fundraiser from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church. The menu includes hot dogs, beans, homemade potato salad, beverages and ice cream and pies for a free will offering. There will also be whole pies for sale. The church is handicapped accessible from the north side. Sounds yummy.
Magician Brian Richards will perform at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, at the Sherburn Theatre, hosted by the Sherburn Library. The library has drop-in craft and art activities on Tuesdays from 2:30 to 5 p.m. and Storytimes at 3:30 p.m. on Thursdays as part of its Summer Reading Program to encourage children to keep up their reading skills during the summer. The Sherburn Library is next to the City Hall on First Street and North Manyaska Street.
The Trimont Farmers Market will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday at Anderson Park in Trimont. Children’s activities are held from 10 a.m. to noon. Lunch will be served, and there are many local produce and vendor items. Plan to attend the Trimont Fun Festival this coming weekend.
Sherburn Legion will have their Steak Fry from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 11 with a menu of shrimp, pork chop or rib eye steak with salad bar and baked potato.
The American Red Cross blood drives will be on July 9 at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont, on July 20 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont, on Aug. 5 at Grace Lutheran Church and on Aug. 10 at the Regional Worship Center in Sherburn. Next week the Mayo Mobile Clinic will be in Sherburn on July 13 and July 15 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. The van is parked near the City Hall on First Street. Call the appointment line at 507-238-8500 and mention Sherburn Clinic.
Condolences to the family of Richard McCellan, who passed away recently. He will be missed by family and friends.
Just a reminder that donations to help the Sherburn Theatre are collected at City Hall and can be mailed to Box 667, Sherburn MN 56171. The update stated that some donations have been made (individuals, Lions, FLCA) and a budget payment from the City and grants are being sought with a volunteer. A fund for a new projector is also in the works for the future. Thank you for your support.
The Civic and Commerce Club will meet at noon on July 14, at Bank Midwest. All members are encouraged to attend. Anyone interested should attend. New members are always encouraged to join.
A CREST Lunch and Learn program will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 15, at the First Lutheran Church in Trimont. The speaker, Ean Sinn, will speak about funerals and cremation. There will be a lunch after the program. These programs are free to senior citizens from Martin County. CREST appreciates a free-will donation.
From July 14 to July 18 interested people may file an affidavit of candidacy for the City offices of Mayor (two year term) and 2 City Council members (four year term) for Sherburn and 3 School Board Members for MCW. Further information is at the City Hall or at the School District office.
The annual Veterans Serving Veterans Picnic will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on July 18 at Gomsrud Park in Fairmont. This is for veterans, active-duty and National Guard members, their families and is sponsored by Legion Post 36, DAV Chapter 32, and VFW Post 1222. Thank you for your service.
The Friendship Club from St. John’s Lutheran Church will meet at 1 p.m. on July 20 at St. John’s Church in Sherburn. They will have a special speaker, Gary Johnson, who was an escort for the Washington, D.C. Honor Flight. He will share his experiences. All are welcome. Membership in the club or at the church is not required.
Relay for Life will be from 4 to 9 p.m. on July 28 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Fairmont. Silent and regular auctions, activities and survivors’ walk are planned.
