Fish fry fundraiser coming up in Welcome
WELCOME — This coming Wednesday is Ash Wednesday, which is the beginning of the Lenten season. Area churches have scheduled mid-week services.
Circle of Faith parishes will have a joint service at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome, while St. Paul’s United Church of Christ will have a light supper at 5:30 p.m. with the Wednesday Lenten Bible study at 6 p.m.

Welcome Summer Festival committee has scheduled a fish fry fundraiser from 5-7:30 p.m. Feb. 28 or until the fish are gone. This is an all-you-can-eat fish fry with fish, shrimp, baked potato, coleslaw and a roll on the menu. There is a charge. Celebrate the end of February or leap year or a get out of the house for the day and help a worthy cause at the same time.

Upcoming events include:
o A Relay for Life meeting will be held 5:30 p.m. March 2 in the classroom at Mayo Clinic Health System in Fairmont.
o There will be a Red Cross blood drive from noon to 6 p.m. March 2 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Welcome.
o March 8 is the date we will spring ahead to Daylight Savings Time.
o Welcome Fireman’s Dance will be held beginning 6:30 p.m. March 14 at the Welcome Legion.
